Senior Chocolate Maker
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Pay: £13.30 per hour
About Us
Bullion Chocolate is a bean-to-bar chocolate factory based in Kelham Island, Sheffield. We craft chocolate using just cocoa beans and cane sugar, building long-term relationships with the growers we source from. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an experienced and reliable Senior Chocolate Maker to help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of our production operation.
About the Role
The Senior Chocolate Maker is a hands-on role within our production team, working closely with and supporting the Factory Manager to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the factory.
You will be involved in all aspects of chocolate production, from processing cocoa beans through to finished chocolate products. You will take an active role in chocolate making, product development and maintaining consistent quality standards, while also supporting and training other members of the production team.
The Senior Chocolate Maker will also be expected to step up and support the running of the factory in the Factory Manager's absence, including during holidays and other periods of leave.
This is a practical role for someone who enjoys working with chocolate, takes pride in producing high-quality products and is confident taking responsibility within a small production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and carry out the chocolate making processes, including grinding, refining, conching and moulding
- Assist with tempering chocolate and ensure consistently high-quality results
- Monitor chocolate quality, consistency and appearance throughout production
- Assist with the development and testing of new chocolate products and recipes
- Help design and refine new products
- Support the Factory Manager with the day-to-day running of the factory and production operations
- Assist with planning and organising daily production tasks
- Step in to support the day-to-day running of the factory when the Factory Manager is absent, including holidays and other planned leave
- Train and support new members of the production team
- Help ensure team members understand and follow production procedures and food safety requirements
- Provide guidance and support to the production team during busy periods
- Safely operate and oversee the use of production machinery and equipment
- Monitor stock levels of ingredients, packaging and production materials and report requirements to the Factory Manager
- Ensure production areas, machinery and equipment are kept clean and well maintained
- Support in maintaining an efficient and positive working environment

You should be comfortable working as part of a small team, helping others learn and taking pride in producing consistently high-quality chocolate.
Essential
- Good understanding of chocolate-making processes
- Ability to follow recipes, production procedures and instructions accurately
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

- Ability to work independently when required
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills
- Good understanding of food hygiene and safety procedures
- Ability to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of production when required
Desirable
- Experience with chocolate tempering
- Experience in bean-to-bar chocolate production
- Experience with product development and recipe creation
- Experience training or supervising other team members
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or higher
Physical Requirements
This is a hands-on and physically active role.
The successful candidate will:
- Be comfortable working on their feet for extended periods
- Carry out repetitive production tasks
- Regularly lift and move ingredients, equipment and finished products
- Assist with manual handling as part of a team
- Be comfortable working around production machinery and in a busy factory environment
