About the Role
David Wood Baking Ltd (Kearsley) is seeking an experienced and driven Site Engineering Manager to lead the engineering function at one of our fast-paced manufacturing facilities.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for delivering engineering reliability, compliance, continuous improvement, people development, and operational performance across the site.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring equipment uptime, engineering standards, capital project delivery, and a proactive safety culture within a high-volume food production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the site engineering team across all shifts
- Drive engineering standards, compliance, and best practice
- Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) strategies
- Minimise downtime through effective fault diagnosis and root cause analysis
- Manage engineering budgets and contractor control
- Support and deliver continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety and food safety standards
- Manage engineering KPIs including:
- Downtime
- OEE
- PM compliance
- Labour utilisation
- Engineering spend
- Support site capital projects and equipment installations
- Develop engineering team capability through coaching and training
- Ensure engineering documentation and legal compliance records are maintained
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in an Engineering Manager or senior engineering leadership role
- Strong background within food manufacturing, FMCG, or bakery environments preferred
- Electrical and/or mechanical engineering qualification
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Experience managing reactive and preventative maintenance systems
- Knowledge of:
- HACCP
- PUWER
- LOLER
- Food safety standards
- Contractor management
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment
Desirable Skills
- NEBOSH or IOSH qualification
- Project management experience
- CMMS experience
- Continuous improvement / Lean manufacturing knowledge
- Experience with automated production lines and conveyors
