To support the company’s growth and an ambitious new product development programme, we are seeking an Engineering & NPD manager to join our team. The role offers an excellent opportunity to play a key role within the organisation and to make a significant contribution to our business.
Detailed role description
You will be responsible to manage and deliver NPD projects on-time, in-full, interfacing with team members and with external partners, specifically:
· ‘Hands-on’ NPD activity, to include electronics, firmware, software and mechanics, as required.
· Establishing specifications and functional descriptions covering mechanical, electronic and software requirements.
· Building and executing project plan including budget, time-line and resource allocation (internal and external).
· Leading a small team of engineers, technicians and/or apprentices
· Creating and maintaining project documentation to a high standard.
· Meeting and achieving certification to relevant product standards (e.g. EN61010).
· Assisting with transferring new products to the production team.
· Contributing to the detailed definition of the Company NPD roadmap and product specifications.
· Testing and validating designs and prototypes.
You will also be responsible for supporting existing product range, specifically:
· Supporting service and test engineers with fault finding
· Providing engineering solutions to bugs, faults or errors
· Providing engineering solutions for component obsolescence
· Developing new software for novel test methods.
· Supporting customers, distributors and colleagues on technical and service matters.
· Identifying and implementing design improvements to reduce product cost and / or improve product quality and performance
Experience and Education
Essential
· At least five years’ experience in an engineering development environment: specific experience in scientific equipment, instrumentation, special purpose machinery, motion control or robotic systems development is required
· Proven track record in project delivery, achieving project deadlines and performance objectives.
· Educated to a HNC level (or higher) in Computer science, Mechanical or Electronic Engineering.
Desirable
· Although this is a multi-skilled role a slight bias to software / firmware / embedded systems would be desirable.
· Experience in materials / fibre testing instrumentation

· Strong attention to detail, competent in problem-solving and possessing a sense of curiosity.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and external partners.
· Highly motivated and capable of independent working.
· Business-minded, organised and capable of working under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
Location and travel requirements
· The role is office based at Dia-Stron head office in Andover.
· Occasional overnight (international) business travel no more than once per month.
· Full driving licence and a valid passport of a nationality that allows visa free travel to USA and Europe.
Pay: £40,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
