Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Nursery Chef to join our team at The Ark Nursery & Preschool. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for children in a nursery setting, ensuring all food safety standards are met. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in food preparation and culinary arts to contribute to the wellbeing of young children through healthy meal provision. The Nursery Chef will work closely with nursery staff to deliver high-quality, balanced meals that cater to diverse dietary requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals suitable for children, adhering to nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions
- Plan weekly menus in collaboration with nursery management, ensuring variety and nutritional balance
- Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in all aspects of food preparation and storage
- Assist with the organisation of meal times, ensuring a smooth and pleasant dining experience for children
- Monitor stock levels and order ingredients as needed, ensuring freshness and quality of supplies
- Clean and sanitise kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces regularly
- Follow all health and safety regulations to prevent accidents or food contamination
- Support the nursery team during meal service, including serving food when required
Requirements
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably within a childcare or nursery environment
- Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices in hygiene
- Experience working in a kitchen or restaurant setting is desirable
- Ability to prepare nutritious meals that appeal to young children
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Flexibility to adapt menus based on dietary needs or special occasions
- Basic understanding of serving procedures and maintaining a clean kitchen environment
