Rider Support & Cycle Mechanic Apprentice – MTB / eMTB
MTB Monster is currently recruiting for a Rider Support & Cycle Mechanic Apprentice, ideally suited to a school or college leaver who has a genuine interest in mountain biking, eMTBs and developing a technical career within the cycle industry.
This is a varied role combining Rider Support, customer communication and practical workshop experience. You will work as part of our existing Rider Support team, alongside experienced mechanics and technical staff, learning how to support customers throughout the ownership of their bike.
The long-term aim is to develop the successful candidate into someone who can confidently speak with customers, assess reported issues, diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, and provide clear and effective solutions.
MTB Monster is a specialist mountain bike and eMTB retailer with an established workshop, Rider Support and warranty operation. We sell and support brands including Cube, Santa Cruz, Mondraker, Orbea, Marin, Amflow, Whyte, Transition and Velduro.
Main Responsibilities
- Working as part of the existing Rider Support team
- Speaking with customers in person, over the phone and by email
- Understanding and accurately recording customer concerns and reported bike faults
- Booking bikes into the workshop
- Assisting customers with technical and product-related queries
- Working with experienced mechanics to identify and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults
- Developing the ability to independently diagnose bike and eMTB issues
- Explaining technical issues, repairs and recommended solutions clearly and accurately to customers
- Building and preparing mechanical bikes and eMTBs
- Setting up bikes correctly for customers prior to collection or delivery
- Carrying out servicing, repairs and routine maintenance
- Learning to use manufacturer diagnostic systems and technical resources
- Developing knowledge of eMTB motors, batteries, electronics and software
- Developing knowledge of suspension, brakes, drivetrains and other modern MTB components
- Keeping up to date with new bikes, products and technologies
- Liaising with the workshop and warranty teams to help resolve customer issues
- Maintaining accurate records and following internal procedures
- Helping ensure customers receive a high standard of support before, during and after a repair
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship, organisation and attention to detail
- Carrying out any additional duties reasonably required by management
What We Are Looking For
Previous experience working on bicycles is preferred but not essential, as full training will be provided.
The successful candidate should:
- Be confident and comfortable speaking with customers
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Be able to understand technical problems and explain them clearly and accurately, both verbally and by email
- Be able to listen carefully and understand the problem a customer is describing
- Enjoy practical, hands-on work
- Be technically minded and interested in understanding how things work
- Be willing to develop towards independently diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults

- Have an interest in mountain bikes, eMTBs or cycling
Training & Development
From the outset, you will receive structured training both internally and externally.
You will be enrolled on Cytech training, with the aim of completing Cytech Technical Two and Technical Three and progressing towards becoming a fully qualified cycle mechanic.
You will also receive practical training from our experienced Rider Support and workshop teams, covering areas including:
- Customer and Rider Support
- Bike fault diagnosis
- eMTB electrical and electronic systems
- Manufacturer diagnostic software
- Bike servicing and repair
- Bike setup
- Warranty procedures
- Technical communication with customers
As your experience develops, you will be given increasing responsibility for diagnosing faults and helping customers resolve increasingly complex technical issues.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have achieved, or be predicted to achieve:
- GCSE English Language – Grade 6 or above
- GCSE Mathematics – Grade 6 or above
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. As the role develops, you will need to be able to understand complicated technical problems and explain them clearly and accurately to customers, both verbally and by email.
Role Schedule
- Full-time position
- Five working days per week 8.30am -5pm
- Every Saturday is a required working day
- One day will be rota'd off during the week
- Day shifts
