Grow a magazine's membership base. Learn the systems that actually run modern publishing.
Oracle Time is an established print magazine and digital platform covering the world of watches, read by collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. We are looking for an apprentice to take ownership of our subscriptions and membership.
This is not a filing job. Our subscriber base is a core part of the business, and this role is about looking after it and growing it. You will handle the customer side, the day to day running of it, and increasingly the commercial thinking behind it: what makes people join, what makes them stay, and what we should be offering them next.
We run subscriptions using AI tools, automations and scripts rather than by hand. You will learn how those systems work, use them daily, and help us make them better. You do not need to be technical. You do need to be curious about how things work, and interested in doing them a smarter way.
What you will do
- Look after subscribers and handle customer queries by email and phone
- Run the monthly distribution of the magazine
- Keep our subscription, email and customer data clean and accurate
- Write and send the membership newsletter
- Work on campaigns to win new subscribers and retain existing ones
- Use and improve the AI tools and automations behind the subscription system
- Help out at events and on partnership work as you find your feet
Further down the line there is scope to shape the membership offering itself. If you are good, this job gets bigger quickly.
Where you will work
Three days a week in our Battlesbridge office, two from home.
What we need
- Organised, and you notice detail. A wrong address means a magazine goes to the wrong house.
- Confident talking to customers, including the occasional unhappy one.
- Forward thinking. If something takes an hour every week, we want you asking whether it should.
- Able to get to Battlesbridge for 9.00am, five days a week. It is rural, so please check the journey before you apply.
- GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or above, or willing to work towards them alongside the apprenticeship.
- Able to work independently on your days at home and tell us when you are stuck.
No experience needed. No watch knowledge needed either, though you will have plenty within a year.
Straight talking
There is real admin in this job: records, data, inboxes, distribution lists. If detail work bores you, you will not enjoy it, and we would rather you knew that now. In return you get genuine ownership from day one, proper training, exposure to the commercial side of a media business, and a team that will teach you. We want whoever takes this on to still be here in three years, running something bigger.
Training and pay
You will be enrolled on a recognised apprenticeship standard with a training provider, with dedicated study time each week. Pay is the Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage in your first year, then the National Minimum Wage for your age. Apprenticeship funding rules mean we may not be able to take you if you already hold a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above.
