Syntech Recruitment are recruiting for an experienced Chief Design Engineer to lead transmission and driveline design programmes for an engineering business near Leamington Spa.
This is a senior technical role covering projects from concept through to hardware validation, alongside technical leadership and development of the wider design team.

Chief Design Engineer Duties
- Lead the development and execution of system design strategies, ensuring alignment with project goals and industry standards.
- Utilize CAD software such as SolidWorks and Schematics tools to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings that accurately reflect design intent.
- Conduct root cause analysis on design issues, troubleshooting complex problems using MATLAB, Simulink, and LabVIEW to simulate system behaviors and optimize performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive schematics and electrical diagrams for programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and other control systems.
- Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles to ensure precise manufacturing specifications are met in all designs.
- Perform mechanical analysis using CAD tools combined with system design principles to validate robustness and reliability of components.
- Oversee prototype testing, analyze results, and implement improvements based on findings to enhance product functionality and durability.
Chief Design Engineer Qualifications
- Proven experience in system design with a strong foundation in mechanical knowledge and engineering principles.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks or equivalent for creating detailed schematics and models.
- Hands-on experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and LabVIEW for simulation, data acquisition, and control system development.
- Expertise in root cause analysis techniques to identify issues efficiently and implement effective solutions.
- Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) programming, wiring schematics, and automation systems integration.
- Knowledge of GD&T standards for precise manufacturing communication; experience working with technical drawings is essential.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including material selection, tolerances, and system integration processes.
