Support Worker / School Escort – Young Person with Additional Needs Join Our Dedicated Team
We are looking for a compassionate, reliable and enthusiastic Support Worker / School Escort to provide one-to-one support for a young boy with additional needs during his school journey and throughout agreed support hours.
This rewarding role involves ensuring his safety, promoting his independence, supporting his emotional wellbeing and helping him enjoy a calm, positive and successful journey to and from school. You will build a trusting relationship with him while working closely with his family, school staff and the wider support team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys making a genuine difference in a young person's life and wants to work within a person-centred, supportive organisation.
Duties
- Provide safe, reliable one-to-one support during transport to and from school.
- Support the young person to enter and leave the vehicle safely.
- Promote independence while providing reassurance and encouragement where needed.
- Build a positive, trusting relationship through patience, consistency and understanding.
- Recognise signs of anxiety or distress and use agreed support strategies to help the young person remain calm and regulated.
- Ensure the young person's safety at all times during transport and transitions.
- Follow individual support plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies.
- Communicate effectively with parents, school staff and the management team regarding any concerns or significant events.
- Complete daily records and accurately report any incidents, accidents or safeguarding concerns.
- Attend regular training, supervision and team meetings as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold Boundless Ability Highlands Ltd's policies and procedures at all times.
Requirements
- A caring, patient and compassionate nature.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and confident in challenging or unexpected situations.
- A genuine interest in supporting children and young people with additional support needs.
- Understanding of autism, or other additional needs is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
- Previous experience working with children or vulnerable people is advantageous but not essential.
- Ability to follow support plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
- Successful PVG Scheme membership and satisfactory references.
