Job Overview
We are looking for a Trainee Mailer Operator to join our production team at Stephens & George Print Group in Merthyr Tydfil.
The role will primarily involve working within our mailing department, where we prepare magazines and other printed products for distribution using our paper-wrapping and poly-wrapping mailing lines.
This is a trainee position and previous mailing or print industry experience is not essential, as full in-house training will be provided.
We are looking for someone who is reliable, keen to learn and comfortable working within a busy manufacturing environment.
The position operates on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern, consisting of:
- 2 x day shifts – 8am to 8pm
- 2 x night shifts – 8pm to 8am
- 4 days off
- The pattern then repeats
Although the role will be predominantly based within the mailing department, there may also be a requirement to assist in other areas of our busy production facility, including the bindery, handwork and despatch areas.
Duties
- Learn to operate and assist with our paper-wrap and poly-wrap mailing equipment.
- Set up and prepare machinery for mailing jobs under supervision and, following training, independently.
- Feed magazines and other printed products through mailing equipment.
- Monitor jobs while running to ensure quality and accuracy are maintained.
- Assist with job changes, machine set-ups and general production requirements.
- Ensure the correct quantities and mailing materials are used for each job.
- Carry out basic machine checks and report any issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Follow company health and safety procedures at all times.
- Assist colleagues within the mailing department to meet production and delivery deadlines.
- Provide support within our bindery, handwork and despatch departments when required.
Skills
We are looking for someone who:
- Is reliable, punctual and has a strong work ethic.
- Is willing to learn new skills and undertake full in-house training.
- Is comfortable working both day and night shifts on a 4 on / 4 off pattern.
- Can work effectively as part of a team.
- Has good attention to detail.
- Is able to follow instructions and established procedures.
- Can work accurately in a busy production environment.
- Has a practical approach and is comfortable working with machinery.
- Is flexible and willing to assist in other production areas when required.
- Takes pride in producing work to a high standard.
Previous experience within printing, mailing, manufacturing, warehousing or a similar production environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
