Job Summary
Barge no.9 CIC is a community project being developed into a welcoming maritime space incorporating community hospitality and events. Join our dedicated team as a Volunteer worker and make a meaningful difference in the community. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute your time and skills to by being part of the barge build . We are currently looking for people with existing skills such as welding, carpentry, electrics and plumbing as well as people who have little or no previous experience and want to learn.
The purpose of volunteering at the Barge no.9 is to:
- Support the development, refurbishment and operation of the barge.
- Contribute practical skills
- Skilled volunteers to use their professional trade or practical experience to help build the interior of the barge.
- Trade and maintenance
- Carpentry and joinery
- Painting and decorating
- Plumbing
- Electrical work where appropriate qualified and authorised
- Welding and metalwork
- General building and maintenance
- Repairs and refubishment
- Boat, marine or engineering work
- Maintain a safe and respectful environment by following established guidelines and protocols
- Participate in training sessions as required
Responsibilities
All volunteers are expected to:
Follow Barge no.9 policies, procedures and reasonable instructions. Work safely and responsibly, treat others with respect. Take reasonable care of the barge, equipment, tools and property. Report accidents, hazards, damage or concerns. Only use tools and equipment volunteers are trained and authorised to use. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment PPE when required. Keep work areas clean and tidy where possible.
Join the current team of experienced volunteers on the two days a week they work on the barge.

Experience
- Previous volunteer experience is an advantageous but not required
- Strong communication skills in English, with an empathetic approach toward diverse populations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment
