Role Overview
Are you a postgraduate looking for rewarding, high-paying, flexible work? We are seeking Specialist Support Professionals (SSP) to provide essential academic support to visually impaired students in Higher Education in Chester.
This is an annual requirement with work scheduled entirely around your availability—we do not manage your diary. No prior specialist experience is required if you hold a postgraduate qualification; we will provide full training in specialist support provision.
Key Responsibilities
- Resource Adaptation: Format and adapt learning materials to make them fully accessible.
- Academic Support: Assist students with assignment structuring, referencing, and proofreading.
- Research Assistance: Support students with library research and accessing learning materials.
- Study Skills: Help students develop independent study skills and navigate campus academic life.
- Collaboration: Liaise politely with university teaching staff as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Mandatory:
- Any Postgraduate qualification (e.g., PGDip, MA, MSc, PhD, PGCE, FHEA, etc.)
- Training: A willingness to undertake specialist vision impairment training provided completely free by us (unless you already hold specialist training).
- Location: Must be based within a reasonable commuting distance of the Chester for in-person support.
Preferred (but not essential):
- Prior experience supporting visually impaired (VI) students.
- Familiarity with adaptive technologies and digital accessibility standards.
