Trainee Property Manager
Property management is a profession, and this role is built to teach it to you properly. It is an entry point into a career managing residential homes, high value private properties, premium accommodation and commercial premises, working alongside an experienced Senior Property Manager who will develop you into a capable Property Manager in your own right.
This is not an administrative property role. From the outset you will be learning the industry from the ground up, gaining exposure to a substantial and varied portfolio, and building the knowledge and commercial understanding needed to eventually take responsibility for your own set of properties. For someone who wants to establish a serious, long term career in property, lettings and real estate, there are few better ways to start.
The portfolio spans Manchester and Greater Manchester, with selected properties extending into Warrington, the Peak District and the Lake District. Your week will move between the office, client meetings and regular property visits, combining desk based work with genuine time out in the field.
The role
Working closely with the Senior Property Manager, you will support the day to day running of the portfolio while learning every aspect of the profession. Your responsibilities will grow as your confidence and competence develop, and will include:
- Accompanying the Senior Property Manager to property visits and inspections
- Meeting landlords, property owners, tenants and clients, both new and existing
- Arranging and conducting property viewings across residential and commercial lettings
- Coordinating tenancy and move in processes, inventories, and check in and check out
- Communicating with tenants, landlords, contractors and external suppliers
- Coordinating repairs and maintenance, and following up outstanding issues
- Supporting property inspections, condition reports and compliance documentation
- Maintaining accurate property and tenancy records, and supporting tenancy renewals
- Handling enquiries professionally by telephone, email and face to face
Along the way you will learn how the rental and letting markets work, how to manage multiple properties and priorities at once, and how to build the kind of lasting relationships with landlords and clients that a property career is founded on.
Training and career development
Structured training sits at the heart of this position. You will learn on the job alongside the Senior Property Manager, covering property management, residential lettings, tenancy processes, property inspections, inventories, maintenance coordination, landlord relationships, property compliance, negotiation and portfolio management.
As you progress, the company will sponsor relevant professional qualifications where appropriate, including training towards the Propertymark Level 3 Certificate in Property Agency. Further property management training may become available as you take on greater responsibility.
The long term aim is clear. As your knowledge, performance and commercial judgement develop, you will progress towards a Property Manager position and, in time, take charge of your own portfolio. Progression is earned through competence and the successful completion of training rather than time served, so the career is genuinely yours to build.
Who we are looking for
Previous property management experience is not required, as full training is provided. What matters is a genuine interest in property and the commitment to build a career in it.
You may be coming from estate agency, lettings, customer service, hospitality, sales, recruitment, account management, administration, facilities management, retail management, housing or another client facing role. We equally welcome strong candidates entering the property industry for the first time.
We are looking for someone with:
- Clear, confident communication and a professional approach to client service
- Strong organisation, time management and attention to detail
- The ability to build relationships and manage several priorities at once
- Commercial awareness, sound problem solving and a willingness to learn
- Reliability, initiative and a real interest in property and real estate
Because regular visits to properties across Manchester, Greater Manchester and the surrounding areas are an essential part of the job, a full UK driving licence is required.
