GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
The role will provide senior engineering support for MWS product development, with responsibility for delivering robust, manufacturable and customer-focused design solutions across the product range.
The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for planning, organising and directing engineering projects from concept through design, prototype, manufacture and commissioning. The postholder will ensure that all work meets internal quality standards, customer specifications and applicable safety and compliance requirements.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- The development and optimisation of MWS equipment.
- Analyse the design and mechanical systems of current machines and use benchmarking to improve quality, reliability and efficiency.
- Development of high standard manufacturing drawings in accordance with standards to accompany work instructions and quotations.
- Production of detailed written work instructions for the manufacture and installations of products.
- Creating and maintaining 3D Model and 2D drawings of products for presentation, manufacture and marketing.
- Investigate mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance issues, identify root causes and make recommendations for corrective action and implementation.
- Actively participate in continuous quality improvement activity and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Evaluate new materials, manufacturing techniques and processes.
- Report all accidents, incidents or near misses to the Supervisor.
- Observe all legislated H&S regulations as well as established workplace safety procedures.
- Cooperate with the Joint Health & Safety Committee in any Safety Program Review.
- Works in compliance with all Administrative, Health & Safety policies and procedures as per legislative requirements and as outlined in Company policies.
- As a senior member of the engineering team, the postholder will be expected to provide technical guidance, support workload prioritisation and contribute to the development of Engineers and Junior Engineers within the team.
- Setting team goals and KPI’s and ensuring they are met.
- Overseeing day to day work of the product range.
- Support people management and development activities for Engineers and Junior Engineers, including performance management, annual leave requests, return-to-work discussions and day-to-day support.
- Work with Aftermarket and Sales to review customer feedback, prioritise improvement requests and ensure agreed design changes are progressed.
- Complete special projects as required and support other areas of the business where needed, based on operational or customer requirements.
- The postholder will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Aftermarket, Sales and Health and Safety teams to ensure product designs are practical, compliant, cost-effective and aligned with customer requirements.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The successful applicant will be educated to degree level, or equivalent, in Design Engineering or a relevant discipline and will have at least five years’ experience in the recycling and materials handling industry.
- Must be proficient in MS Office (including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Good working knowledge of Desk Top Publishing.
- Previous 3D CAD experience is essential, preferably using Creo.
- Previous 2D AutoCAD experience would be advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Proven attention to detail and a strong team player with proven experience of working collaboratively with a range of departments.
- Problem solving and time management skills required.
