Role overview
Join our dynamic Bury St Edmunds team as a Parts Supervisor and take charge of managing the parts inventory, ensuring seamless operations within our award-winning branch. In this energetic role, you will oversee the daily functions of parts procurement, warehousing, shipping, and receiving, all while providing exceptional customer service to internal teams and customers. Your leadership will drive efficiency, accuracy, and safety in our parts department, supporting our commitment to delivering a premium service to our valued customers.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, day shift and one in three Saturday mornings 8:00-12:00
Salary is competitive and dependant upon experience
Duties
- Effectively manage the front and back counter operations.
- Supervise the parts inventory process, including ordering, stocking, and tracking.
- Build and develop customer relationships, deliver excellent customer service, inform customers of promotions and drive sales within the department.
- Coordinate shipping and receiving activities to ensure timely delivery of parts and equipment.
- Maintain accurate data entry records for all parts transactions and inventory adjustments.
- Oversee warehouse organisation, ensuring health and safety, housekeeping and operational standards are followed.
- Support logistics planning for shipping & receiving operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Lead the Parts team by providing guidance on mechanical knowledge, customer service excellence, and operational procedures.
- Create and distribute relevant reports.
- Ensure VOR/Freight charge costs are managed efficiently.
- Ensure stock management administration is completed to the required standard, including invoicing. Overseeing the full journey, from processing stock in, preparing parts for the workshop, bodyshop and customers, to returns and service exchanges.
- Liaise with supplier and chase supplier credits when necessary.
- Work collaboratively with the workshop, other departments and branches
Skills
- Proven experience in HGV parts management, within an automotive or industrial setting.
- Personnel supervisory experience.
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to automotive service or equipment repair processes.
- Proficiency with IT systems such as Keyloop or similar platform.
- Ability to operate forklifts safely; certification preferred.
- Excellent negotiation skills for vendor interactions and procurement processes.
- Exceptional customer service skills to support internal teams and customers efficiently.
