Location: Bransgore, Hampshire.
Hours: 32.5 hours per week over 40 weeks.
Salary: £15.29 per hour.
Fortune College
A specialist Further Education College for young adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Working with horses, our students follow an individualised curriculum, learning independent living skills, social and communication skills, Maths, English, ICT, skills for work and, when relevant, achieve accredited qualifications.
To deliver high-quality English and Maths provision to young people aged 16–25 with a range of SEND, using Fortune College’s unique equine specialism. The focus of Fortune College revolves around working with horses to prepare young people for adulthood by increasing their independence and employment options, whilst achieving academic and vocational qualifications and knowledge that will equip them for the next stage in their lives, be that further education, training, or work.
Fortune College is set within the beautiful New Forest National Park and is surrounded by stunning scenery, making it a truly inspiring place to work and learn. Fortune College has 28 resident horses that provide a focus for learning and help to embed transferable skills. Staff maintain the highest aspirations for all students, regardless of their learning journey, and continuously look for ways to embed learning, making the most of our excellent resources.
We are looking for a well-qualified and inspirational teacher of functional skills to join our team and teach English and maths to small groups of students using a range of approaches.
- Plan and teach innovative and inspiring Maths and English sessions using our equine specialism
- Provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation, and challenge
- Contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum
- Work collaboratively with other members of staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Set, monitor and review personalised targets that will optimise learning and outcomes for everyone
- Undertake initial assessment of students and carry out baseline and progress assessments
- Contribute to the review of EHC plans

Skills and Qualifications
Essential:
· Level 5 teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards) and evidence of teaching experience
· Ability to teach Functional skills to a minimum of Entry Level 3
· Excellent teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal
· Effective skills in planning, preparation, recording and reviewing students’ progress
· Proven ability to work on own initiative, be well organised, prioritise effectively and achieve results against deadlines
· Ability to engage students in positive enabling relationships
· Willingness to work as part of a team
· Experience of working with young people with SEND
· Experience with horses
Desirable:
· PGCE, QTS
· Experience of working in a college environment
· Ability to teach up to GCSE
· Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
· Good IT skills and an understanding of how IT can be used to support learning
