HGV Driver LBS-004 (Project)

Working Hours: 20 hours per week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £18.55 per hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Drive dustcart/refuse vehicles safely and efficiently across assigned collection routes
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects or maintenance issues
- Work alongside loaders to complete waste collection rounds
- Support with loading duties and manual handling tasks when required
- Plan and follow daily collection routes to ensure services are completed on time
- Complete all scheduled collections in line with council standards and procedures
- Work flexibly to support operational requirements, including occasional extended hours beyond the contracted finish time
- Maintain good working relationships with drivers, loaders, supervisors, and colleagues
- Follow health and safety procedures, including safe vehicle operation and manual handling practices
- Provide a reliable and professional frontline service to residents
Requirements:
- Previous dustcart/refuse vehicle driving experience (essential)
- Experience working within a local authority or waste services environment is desirable
- Valid HGV driving licence and driver card (essential)
- Experience working as part of a small operational team
- Ability to support loading duties and undertake manual handling tasks
- Good understanding of route planning and daily collection schedules
- Strong awareness of health and safety requirements
- Reliable, flexible, and able to work to operational deadlines
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:
- Experience with driver assistance duties
- Manual Handling training (training can be provided)
About the Role:
Temporary HGV Driver role supporting Southwark Council's Waste & Cleansing service during increased workload.
The successful candidate must have dustcart driving experience, ideally within a local authority or waste services environment. The role involves working alongside loaders, assisting with collections, route planning, and flexible working to ensure all rounds are completed.
Candidates must attend interview with their driver card for physical inspection.
