M&M Supply is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a welcoming primary school in Taunton for a Caretaker to join their dedicated site team on a temp-to-permanent basis from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, reliable and proactive individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors. The successful candidate will initially join through M&M Supply before transferring to a permanent contract with the school.
Working Hours
- 30 hours per week
- Monday to Friday
- 12:00pm – 6:00pm
- All year round (with flexibility around paid weeks for the right candidate)
Salary
- Grade C: £25,583 - £25,989 FTE
- Actual Salary: £20,686.09 - £21,014.37 per annum
The Role
As the school's Caretaker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the school site remains safe, secure and well maintained. Your duties will include:
- Locking the school and setting security alarms each evening.
- Carrying out general maintenance and basic DIY repairs.
- Completing routine health and safety inspections, including fire alarms, emergency exits and playground equipment.
- Supporting the cleaning team where required.
- Maintaining outdoor areas to a high standard, including seasonal duties such as gritting pathways during winter.
- Preparing rooms and facilities for school events, including occasional evening functions.
- Reporting maintenance issues and liaising with contractors when required.
- Helping to ensure the school provides a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
We're Looking For Someone Who:
- Has previous caretaking, maintenance, facilities or site management experience (school experience desirable but not essential).
- Is confident carrying out basic repairs and practical maintenance tasks.
- Has a good understanding of health and safety practices.
- Is dependable, organised and able to work independently.
- Takes pride in maintaining high standards across the school site.
- Has excellent communication skills and enjoys being part of a supportive team.
