Schools Mutual Services in working in partnership schools across Dudley and the wider Black Country, offering opportunities in primary schools, secondary schools, specialist settings, resource bases and alternative provision.

We are seeking enthusiastic and professional SEN Teaching Assistants who can provide tailored support to pupils with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), learning difficulties and pupils with complex needs. You will help pupils access learning, develop confidence, build independence and achieve their full potential. What you'll be doing
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with additional needs to access education, develop independence and succeed both academically and socially.
Depending on the school and assignment, you may be asked to:
- Provide one-to-one support for pupils with SEND
- Support small groups of pupils with additional learning needs
- Assist pupils with EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs
- Support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), moderate or severe learning difficulties, physical disabilities and pupils with complex needs.
- Support pupils with sensory needs, communication differences, emotional regulation and personalised strategies that enable them to engage successfully in learning.
- Work closely with teachers, SENDCOs and other professionals to support pupil progress
- Promote inclusion and help pupils access all aspects of school life
- Support communication, social interaction and independence skills
- Assist with personal care where required and appropriate training has been provided
- Record observations and contribute to pupil progress monitoring
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and carers
- Follow safeguarding, confidentiality and professional conduct expectations at all times
What we're looking for
We are keen to hear from caring and committed support staff who are passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve success.
It is essential that you have experience supporting individuals with a range of SEND, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH or complex needs.
You should have:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND
- Experience supporting pupils within a school, care, youth work or similar setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, empathy and a nurturing approach
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Good behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- A flexible, professional and proactive approach
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
The following would be advantageous:
- Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience
- Experience supporting pupils with complex learning, communication or medical needs
- Experience supporting pupils with sensory processing differences
- Knowledge of autism-friendly and trauma-informed approaches
- Team Teach or positive behaviour support training
- Personal care experience where appropriate
