Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant/Commis Chef to join our culinary team. This role involves supporting the kitchen operations by assisting with food preparation, cooking, and maintaining high standards of food safety. Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing ingredients and components for various dishes, ensuring all food items are ready for service
- Support the head chef in cooking and plating dishes according to established recipes and presentation standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing utensils, equipment, and work surfaces
- Follow food safety and hygiene regulations at all times to ensure compliance with health standards
- Help with stock rotation, inventory checks, and storing ingredients appropriately
- Support the team during service hours by serving food when required and attending to customer needs as directed
- Assist in setting up workstations before shifts and cleaning down after service
Skills
- Experience in food preparation and cooking within a professional kitchen environment is desirable
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Previous restaurant, catering and/or Hotel experience is essential; a keen willingness to learn is important
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail in meal preparation and presentation
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities during busy service periods
