Role overview: We're looking for a skilled and motivated Irrigation Engineer to join our growing team. You'll be responsible for the installation, servicing, and maintenance of irrigation systems, working both independently and as part of a small team on residential and commercial sites. This is a hands-on, technical role suited to someone who takes pride in high-quality workmanship and enjoys problem-solving on site.
Key responsibilities:
- Install new irrigation systems from design plans, including pipework, valves, controllers, and sprinkler/drip components
- Carry out routine servicing, winterisation, and spring start-ups for existing client systems
- Diagnose and repair faults leaks, valve failures, controller issues, and electrical faults
- Programme and configure smart irrigation controllers and sensors
- Liaise directly and professionally with clients on site, explaining work carried out
- Accurately complete job sheets, van stock records, and digital reporting via company systems
- Work safely and in line with company health & safety procedures, including safe excavation and working near utilities
- Support the wider team with occasional garden and landscaping irrigation projects as required
- Maintain tools, vehicle, and equipment to a high standard
Skills & experience:
- Proven experience installing and maintaining irrigation systems (minimum 2 years preferred)
- Working knowledge of irrigation design principles, hydraulics, and common brands (e.g. Hunter, Rain Bird, Toro)
- Basic electrical competency for controller wiring and low-voltage systems
- Comfortable using hand and power tools, and operating small excavation/trenching equipment
- Full UK driving licence (required)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Good communication skills, professional and courteous manner with clients
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload on site
Desirable:
- Recognised irrigation qualification (e.g. BTLIA / EIT / manufacturer certification)
- Experience with smart/Wi-Fi irrigation controllers and app-based diagnostics
- Knowledge of water regulations, backflow prevention, and water byelaws
- Full clean licence suitable for towing a trailer
