Experienced Mechanic — Engines & Major Work (Vans + Performance Cars)
£15–£20 an hour depending on experience | Mon–Fri 8–6, Saturdays and overtime there if you want them | Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
Sick of manufacturer targets, upsell bonuses and capped hours? We're a van dealership, not a service department. Our vehicles belong to us — so the only job is fixing them properly, and the hours are there for anyone who wants to earn.
Who we are. Van District (currently trading as ARJ Solutions) — a fast-growing van dealership and custom conversion business in Mansfield. 30+ vehicles in stock at any time and a workshop pipeline that doesn't stop. Custom builds — starlight roofs, Alcantara interiors, camper conversions — happen in the next bay.
The work. Every vehicle we buy goes through a 110-point check on our in-house app; the light jobs go to the prep team, and everything serious lands on your bench:
- The bread and butter: Mercedes Sprinter W907 2.1 FWD manuals and Ford Transit 350 2.0 FWD — timing chains, injectors, turbos, EGR/DPF, clutches, oil leaks, the lot.
- The interesting stuff: performance and prestige metal comes through too — Golf GTIs, BMW M4s, Range Rover SVRs and more.
- Diagnosing properly, not parts-cannoning — you'll work alongside our workshop manager, who's a Sprinter specialist himself and keeps the parts flowing.
- Volume on two core platforms so you get properly good at them, with enough variety that it never goes stale.
You:
- Time-served with real engine experience — you've been inside them, not just around them. Level 3 or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Honest about what you don't know. We'd rather hear "I've not done one of those" than find out halfway through the job. Competence over confidence, every time.
- Diesel and commercial experience strongly preferred; Sprinter or Transit experience is a big plus.
- Work clean, work safe, and take pride in a vehicle leaving right.
- Full UK driving licence. Tools are provided — and if we haven't got it, we order it.
Straight talk. Our new workshop is being built right now, so for the next few months some of the work is outside and things are a bit rough and ready while the site gets renovated. If you need everything polished from day one, this isn't for you. If you want to be in early at a company that's building — literally — and rise as it grows, this is exactly for you. An apprentice will be brought in under you as the workload picks up.
The money. £15–£20 an hour depending on experience. Flat week is Monday to Friday 8–6, with Saturdays to finish the week off when jobs need it — and beyond that, the hours are there if you want them. Put the effort in and £50k+ a year is realistic, with pay reviewed as the company grows.
