The Safeguarding & Compliance Manager is a key organisational leadership role responsible for ensuring SWFCCP provides a safe, inclusive, compliant and well-governed environment for participants, staff, volunteers and partners.
The postholder will lead the development, implementation and quality assurance of safeguarding, welfare, compliance, data protection, safer recruitment, policy management and governance processes. They will act as a central point of expertise and escalation for safeguarding concerns, support senior leaders to meet statutory and governing body requirements, and ensure robust record keeping, audit readiness and continuous improvement.
The role will also oversee the embedding of equality, diversity and inclusion practice and environmental sustainability considerations across policies, programmes and operational planning, ensuring these areas are actively monitored, reported and improved.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safeguarding Leadership & Welfare Oversight
· Lead safeguarding practice across SWFCCP, ensuring safe, supportive and responsive environments for children, young people, adults at risk, participants, staff and volunteers.
· Act as a named point of contact for safeguarding concerns, incidents and allegations, providing guidance, escalation and support to staff.
· Ensure safeguarding concerns are recorded securely, managed appropriately and escalated through the agreed safeguarding system and procedures.
· Develop and maintain effective relationships with statutory agencies, safeguarding boards, schools, partners, Sheffield Wednesday Football Club and football governing bodies.
· Ensure safeguarding training, induction and CPD are relevant, accessible and completed to the required level for each role.
2. Compliance, Governance & Policy Management
· Lead the development, review and implementation of organisational policies, procedures and compliance frameworks, ensuring they remain current with legislation, statutory guidance and governing body requirements.
· Maintain oversight of the policy schedule, regulatory responsibilities and organisational compliance actions, reporting progress and risks to senior leaders.
· Coordinate audit preparation and quality assurance activity for safeguarding, welfare, compliance and governance reviews.
· Support the development of service level agreements, partnership arrangements and project start-up processes to ensure compliance requirements are embedded from the outset.
3. Safer Recruitment, DBS & Workforce Compliance
· Lead oversight of the Single Central Record and ensure staff, volunteers and relevant workers hold appropriate DBS checks, safeguarding training and role-specific compliance documentation.
· Work with HR and senior managers to embed safer recruitment, induction and probation processes across the organisation.
· Quality assure new starter compliance, including references, identity checks, DBS status, safeguarding qualifications and mandatory training.
4. Data Protection, Records & Reporting
· Act as organisational lead for data compliance, supporting GDPR practice, privacy assessments, secure record keeping and information governance.
· Ensure safeguarding, compliance and governance records are accurate, confidential, accessible to authorised staff and maintained in line with retention requirements.
· Prepare regular reports for senior leaders and trustees on safeguarding themes, compliance progress, risks, audit readiness and improvement actions.
5. EDI & Inclusive Practice Oversight
· Oversee and support the implementation of equality, diversity and inclusion practice across SWFCCP policies, recruitment, delivery, stakeholder engagement and staff development.
· Work with managers to identify barriers to participation, accessibility and inclusion, ensuring improvement actions are monitored and embedded.
· Support alignment with SWFC and SWFCCP EDI commitments, ensuring inclusive language, practice and decision-making are reflected across organisational processes.
6. Environmental Sustainability Oversight
· Support the development, monitoring and implementation of environmental sustainability actions across SWFCCP operations, events, travel, procurement and programme planning.
· Work with colleagues to encourage sustainable working practices, reduce waste and improve environmental awareness across teams.
· Report progress, risks and opportunities relating to sustainability to senior leaders as part of wider organisational governance.
7. Risk, Quality Assurance & Business Continuity
· Work collaboratively with managers to identify, assess and mitigate operational, safeguarding, compliance and reputational risks.
· Support risk assessments for activities, trips, events, residentials and new projects, ensuring proportionate controls are in place.
· Maintain oversight of business continuity planning, incident response arrangements and lessons learned following incidents or exercises.
8. General Responsibilities
· Contribute to senior management discussions, organisational planning and continuous improvement activity.
· Represent SWFCCP professionally and uphold organisational values, policies and procedures.
· Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role and commensurate with the post.
Pay: £34,716.00 per year
