EMA Structures is looking for a motivated Part-Time Structural Engineering Intern / Graduate Engineer to join our London team.
This is a practical role suited to a Civil or Structural Engineering student, recent graduate, or junior engineer who wants hands-on experience working on real structural engineering projects.
You will work closely with our engineers and assist with structural design, calculations, drawings, reports and site inspections. The role will provide exposure to a variety of residential and commercial projects across London, including structural alterations, extensions, steel beam design, foundations and investigation of existing buildings.
We are looking for someone who is keen to learn, technically minded and able to gradually take responsibility for engineering tasks with appropriate supervision.
Duties
- Assist with structural calculations for steel, timber, masonry and foundations
- Prepare and amend structural drawings using AutoCAD or similar software
- Assist with structural assessment and inspection reports
- Review architectural drawings, surveys and project information
- Attend site inspections and record measurements, photographs and observations
- Prepare calculation packages and technical documentation
- Help manage project information and maintain engineering records
- Liaise with engineers, architects, contractors and clients where required
- Support the team with general engineering workload across active projects
Experience & Qualifications
Currently studying towards, or recently completed, a BEng, MEng or MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering.
A good understanding of structural engineering fundamentals and basic structural calculations is important.
Experience with AutoCAD is desirable. Experience with structural calculation software, Revit or other engineering software would be an advantage but is not essential.
Knowledge of UK construction, Building Regulations and Eurocodes would also be advantageous, but training and guidance will be provided.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are organised, reliable, willing to learn and able to work independently once a task has been explained.
What We Offer
This is a paid, part-time position with flexible working days depending on workload and study commitments.
You will gain practical experience working directly on live engineering projects, rather than purely theoretical or administrative tasks.
There may also be an opportunity for the role to develop into a larger part-time or full-time position for the right candidate.
Location: London – primarily office-based with site visits across London
Hours: Part-time, approximately 2–3 days per week
Pay: £15–£18 per hour, depending on experience and technical ability
Pay: £15.00-£18.00 per hour
