Purpose of the Role
To support the kitchen team by maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, handling basic food prep & storage tasks, and ensuring all kitchen equipment and areas are clean, safe, and ready for service.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Hygiene
- Wash, clean and sanitise pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Sweep, mop and wash kitchen floors, walls, ceilings and work surfaces.
- Ensure all cooking equipment (ovens, grills, fryers, mixers) are cleaned daily and deep cleaned as scheduled.
- Clean and maintain back of house areas.
- Follow cleaning schedules and checklists.
Support to Chefs & Kitchen Team
- Assist with simple food prep tasks (e.g. washing, peeling, chopping vegetables) as directed.
- Receive and unpack deliveries; store supplies correctly (date mark, rotate stock).
- Ensure refrigeration and freezer units are clean, organised and operating correctly.
- Help set up and close down kitchen before and after service.
Health, Safety & Food Hygiene
- Follow food hygiene, health & safety, safe handling of chemicals, and COSHH guidelines.
- Use personal protective equipment appropriately.
- Report equipment faults, hazards or maintenance issues
- Adhere to hotel fire & emergency procedures.
General Duties
- Assist with stock rotation and storage; ensure storerooms are tidy and accessible.
- Dispose of waste correctly; ensure bins are emptied and cleaned.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and organised work area, ensuring everything is put away after use.
- Be flexible to cover shifts, including evenings, weekends and possibly holidays.
Person Specification / Skills & Qualifications
● A positive, can-do attitude and ability to work under pressure in a busy kitchen environment.
● Good level of physical fitness (lifting, standing for long periods, working in heat and humidity).
● Basic understanding of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness.
● Ability to follow instructions, work well in a team, and maintain standards.
● Flexibility with shift patterns.
Rate of Pay:
16-20 - £11.41 ph
21 & over £13.27ph
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £13.27 per hour
