Purpose of the Job
To contribute to the delivery of high-quality childcare and holiday club provision for children aged 2 to 11 years at Rabbit Hill Daycare and Holiday Club. The postholder will work as part of the wider childcare and community team to provide a safe, stimulating, inclusive and nurturing environment that supports children’s learning, development and wellbeing through play and positive experiences.
The role includes supporting high-quality childcare, play opportunities and holiday club activities in line with the Curriculum for Wales, Non-Maintained Nursery guidance, Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) requirements and ESTYN expectations.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide safe, stimulating and engaging play and learning opportunities that support children’s development and wellbeing in line with Curriculum for Wales guidance, CIW regulations and ESTYN expectations.
- Support freely chosen, child-led play and activities that reflect children’s interests, ideas and developmental needs.
- Ensure high standards of care, education and play provision within the setting and holiday club.
- Supervise children at all times in accordance with safeguarding procedures, Child Protection policies and CIW adult-to-child ratio requirements.
- Promote an inclusive environment that values equality, diversity and the needs of all children and families, including children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
- Observe, monitor and record children’s progress through observations, learning stories and assessments where required.
- Assist in planning, preparing and delivering activities and play opportunities both indoors and outdoors.
- Support children with personal care routines where required, including toileting, changing nappies and promoting independence and hygiene.
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with children, parents/carers, colleagues and other professionals.
- Work collaboratively as part of the wider Duffryn Community Link team and contribute positively to team meetings, planning sessions and continuous improvement.
- Carry out operational duties including preparing snacks, setting up and clearing activities, maintaining resources and ensuring a clean, safe environment.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and complete relevant documentation in line with Safer Food Better Business procedures.
- Complete required records and administrative tasks including timesheets, accident records and observation documentation.
- Attend staff meetings, supervision sessions, appraisals and relevant training to support ongoing professional development.
- Work flexibly to meet the needs of the childcare and holiday club provision.
- Adhere to all organisational policies and procedures including safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, equality, CIW and ESTYN requirements, and data protection.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as requested by the Childcare Manager.
Previous Experience
Essential
- Experience of working within a childcare, early years, play work or holiday club setting.
- Experience of supporting children’s learning and development through play.
- Experience of working as part of a team.
- Level 3 Childcare qualification recognised by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW).
- Level 2 Play work qualification.
Desirable
- Experience of working with children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
- Experience of completing observations and assessments.
- Experience of working within CIW and ESTYN frameworks.
Pay: £12.71 per hour
