Role Purpose
The Support Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coordination and quality of Verto Living’s male support services. The postholder will lead the Male Support Worker Team, oversee client support across multiple properties and help ensure that services are safe, person-centred, consistent and compliant.
The role reports directly to the Operations Manager. The Senior Support Manager will provide structured induction, role-specific training, coaching and ongoing oversight. The postholder will be expected to take ownership of their responsibilities while working closely with both managers and the wider operational and safeguarding teams.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Supervision and Leadership
- Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance and support to the Male Support Worker Team.
- Allocate caseloads, properties and priorities, ensuring workloads are balanced and completed within the required timescales.
- Hold regular one-to-one supervision meetings, contribute to staff appraisals and address performance, conduct or practice concerns.
- Monitor the quality and timeliness of staff records, support delivery and agreed follow-up actions.
- Support the recruitment, induction and onboarding of new Support Workers.
- Lead team meetings, communicate operational updates and encourage a positive, accountable and supportive team culture.
- Provide staff with guidance when managing complex clients, incidents or changes in risk.
Client and Service Management
- Oversee the delivery of support to clients across a portfolio of supported accommodation properties.
- Review and quality-assure risk assessments, support plans, case notes and other client records, ensuring they remain accurate and up to date.
- Provide management guidance on complex cases and ensure agreed actions are followed through.
- Monitor client engagement, progress and outcomes, responding to gaps in support or emerging concerns.
- Complete or coordinate property visits, welfare checks and client meetings where management input is required.
- Support assessment, move-in, occupancy and move-on processes.
- Ensure clients receive consistent, appropriate and person-centred support.
Safeguarding and Risk Management
- Promote a strong safeguarding culture within the team.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are identified, recorded, responded to and escalated without delay.
- Provide staff with clear direction following safeguarding disclosures, incidents or changes in risk.
- Escalate serious or complex concerns to the Safeguarding Lead and Operations Manager in accordance with organisational procedures.
- Review incidents, accidents and near misses, ensuring immediate actions and learning points are completed.
- Work with external professionals and agencies to manage risk and support coordinated decision-making.
Quality, Compliance and Record Keeping
- Ensure the team follows organisational policies, procedures and professional boundaries.
- Carry out routine audits and quality-assurance checks, addressing any gaps and reporting themes to the Operations Manager.
- Maintain accurate management oversight through Verto Living’s internal systems.
- Ensure client and staff records are clear, factual and completed within the required timescales.
- Support the implementation of action plans arising from audits, incidents, complaints or service reviews.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of operational procedures and service standards.
Operational and Partnership Working
- Work closely with the Operations Manager, Senior Support Manager, Safeguarding Team, property team and maintenance colleagues.
- Coordinate day-to-day property or service issues and ensure they are directed to the appropriate team and followed up.
- Build effective working relationships with local authorities, health services, probation, police, charities and other partner agencies.
- Provide clear updates and management information regarding caseloads, staffing, risks, incidents and service performance.
- Represent Verto Living professionally during meetings with external agencies and partners.
- Contribute to projects and service developments that improve client outcomes and the quality of support provided.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience working within supported accommodation, housing, homelessness, social care or another service supporting vulnerable adults with complex needs.
- Experience supervising, coordinating or leading staff, with the confidence to provide direction and address concerns.
- A sound understanding of safeguarding, risk management, professional boundaries and person-centred support.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage challenging conversations professionally and constructively.
- Good organisational and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple properties and clients.
- The ability to build effective working relationships with clients, staff and external professionals.
- Competent IT, administration and record-keeping skills.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable
- Previous line-management experience, including staff supervision, performance management or appraisals.
- Experience auditing support records, risk assessments or service quality.
- A relevant qualification in management, housing, health and social care or a related field.
- Experience of multi-agency working.
- Experience supporting people affected by homelessness, mental ill-health, substance misuse, offending or domestic abuse.
Additional Requirements
- Appointment is subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and confirmation of the right to work in the UK.
- The postholder must maintain appropriate vehicle insurance for business use.
- The role requires flexibility to respond to changing service priorities and occasional urgent situations.
