We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cook to join our friendly team at The Priory Rest Home, preparing nutritious meals for our elderly residents. Hours: 22.75 per week, job sharing with one other cook on a two-week rolling rota, including every other weekend. Working hours are 08:00 –14:30.
About the Role
As our Cook, you will play a vital role in ensuring residents enjoy fresh, well-balanced and appetising meals each day. You will:
- Prepare lunch and evening meals, following set menus and accommodating dietary needs (including allergies and medical requirements).
- Ensure meals are nutritious, attractively presented, and tailored to residents’ preferences.
- Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene, food safety and infection control at all times.
- Be responsible for washing up and ensuring the kitchen, equipment, and utensils are kept clean and tidy at all times
- Monitor and record HACCP systems, keeping accurate kitchen records.
- Assist with stock control and ordering of food supplies.
- Support colleagues and provide a welcoming dining experience for residents.
- Promote a homely, caring atmosphere where residents’ rights and choices are respected
About You
We are looking for someone who is passionate about food and understands the importance of nutrition in older people’s care. You will:
- Have previous experience as a Cook, ideally in a care home, school, hospital, or similar setting.
- Hold a Food Hygiene certificate (Level 2 minimum; Level 3 desirable).
- Understand special diets and texture-modified meals (e.g. diabetic, vegetarian, fortified).
- Show strong organisational and time management skills.
- Work independently while being a supportive member of the wider team.
- Be reliable, flexible, and committed to providing a high standard of care through food.
