About Island Ropes
Island Ropes & Rigging Limited is a growing Ledbury-based supplier and manufacturer of specialist synthetic ropes and rope assemblies.
We supply customers across a wide variety of industries, including industrial winching, lifting, commercial marine, offshore, aquaculture, agriculture, safety, film and events.
We are looking for an accurate, curious and organised person to join us for an initial 6–8 week project, helping our sales team build, verify and improve targeted customer databases.
The role
This is a practical research and database-building position. You will investigate businesses operating within selected industries, identify the most appropriate contacts and create accurate, campaign-ready records for our sales team.
You will work on one market at a time, learning what makes a company relevant to Island Ropes and which of our products may be suitable for it.
The role will involve a mixture of online research, database work, information checking and polite telephone calls to businesses.
Full guidance and training will be provided. You do not need previous sales experience or knowledge of the rope industry.
Main responsibilities
- Researching businesses within selected industries and markets
- Establishing what each company does and whether it is a suitable prospect
- Identifying appropriate contacts and decision-makers
- Finding and checking business telephone numbers, email addresses and professional profiles
- Making polite telephone calls to verify names, job titles and contact information
- Entering information accurately into spreadsheets and company systems
- Cleaning, updating and standardising existing database records
- Identifying and removing duplicate or outdated information
- Recording where information was obtained and when it was verified
- Preparing accurate prospect lists for future sales campaigns
- Providing brief progress updates to the sales team
About you
We are more interested in your attitude, accuracy and willingness to learn than previous experience.
You should be:
- Comfortable using computers and carrying out online research
- Accurate, methodical and well organised
- Curious and willing to investigate what different businesses actually do
- Able to follow clear processes and maintain consistent records
- Confident communicating politely and professionally
- Willing to make straightforward telephone calls after appropriate training
- Comfortable asking questions when something is unclear
- Able to work independently while also contributing to a small, friendly team
- Responsible when handling company and business-contact information
Experience using Microsoft Excel, databases, CRM systems or LinkedIn would be helpful but is not essential.
What we offer
- £12.71 per hour
- Paid 30-minute lunch break on Monday and Tuesday
- Full training and guidance
- Practical experience in commercial research, databases, sales support and campaign preparation
- Exposure to a growing manufacturing and industrial-supply business

- An initial 6–8 week position with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement
- A reference following successful completion of the placement
