We are The Cheese Lady, an award-winning specialist in farmhouse and artisan cheese, with two shops in East Lothian (Haddington and North Berwick) and a growing online store. Our mission is simple: to bring truly exceptional cheese and fine foods to people who appreciate quality.
We are now looking for both part-time and full-time team members to join our shops in Haddington and North Berwick.
This role is best suited to someone looking for stable, long-term employment in a specialist food retail environment. We are looking for dependable, proactive people who want to learn, grow with the business, and become part of a small, dedicated team.
About the Role
This is a varied role that combines sales, cheesemongering, shop work, stock management, administration and online order support.
At its heart, this is a sales and customer service role. You will be helping customers discover and enjoy exceptional cheese, making confident recommendations, and contributing to strong shop sales while maintaining The Cheese Lady’s high standards of product care, presentation and service.
No two days are quite the same, and for someone curious, practical and hands-on, it is never dull.

What You’ll Be Doing
Sales & Customer Service
- Welcoming customers warmly and professionally
- Offering knowledgeable guidance and recommendations
- Helping customers choose cheese, fine foods, gifts and accompaniments
- Offering tastings and pairing suggestions where appropriate
- Supporting strong shop sales and excellent customer experience
Cheesemongering & Shop Work
- Cutting, wrapping and caring for fine cheese
- Maintaining beautiful, full and inviting cheese displays
- Keeping the shop clean, tidy and well presented
- Ensuring products are shown at their best throughout the day
Stock & Deliveries
- Receiving, checking and organising deliveries
- Restocking shelves and displays
- Keeping back-of-house areas tidy and efficient
- Monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages or quality concerns
Online Orders
- Helping prepare and pack online orders with care and accuracy
- Cutting, wrapping, labelling and packing cheese to our high standards
- Supporting timely and efficient dispatch
Administration
- Creating shipping labels
- Supporting customer emails and order enquiries
- Helping with stock updates and simple administrative tasks
- Keeping accurate records where required

- Passionate about good food — a love of artisan food, especially cheese, is essential

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: £12.71 per hour during the first month probation, rising to £13.45 per hour from month two
