As a support worker, you will work with people to find solutions to their problems. This may be helping to protect vulnerable people from harm or abuse or supporting people to live independently.
You will engage with clients, their families, and others around them. You’ll work with different groups of young people including:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Care and support of our young people
▪ Undertake a comprehensive needs assessment.
▪ Provide high-quality care and support to young people in line with their individual support plans and needs.
▪ Report any changes to a young person’s needs, schedule or general circumstances to the appropriate person without delay.
▪ Promote a safe and nurturing environment, ensuring the physical, emotional, and social well-being of young people.
▪ Support young people in developing life skills such as personal hygiene, cooking, budgeting and maintaining a clean-living space.
▪ Foster positive relationships and encourage young people’s participation in social and recreational activities.
▪ Respond to young people’s immediate needs, including crisis situations, behavioural challenges, or emotional support.
Daily and Weekly duties:
▪ Bespoke and targeted key work / direct work sessions with young people. Each young person must receive a minimum of one key work / direct work session per week. This can be informal / formal or planned / unplanned.
▪ Regular welfare checks on young people. Use this opportunity to reflect with them on their wellbeing, and any plans they may have for the current day or days ahead that they may need support with.
▪ External and internal dynamic risk assessment of property.
▪ Weekly room checks. Room checks may be required more frequently if there are concerns young people are smoking in rooms or keeping illegal or unauthorized items in rooms.
▪ Supporting young people to keep their rooms clean.
▪ Ensuring the communal areas are always kept clean – support workers are required to carry out basic cleaning. This can be in collaboration with young people as a key work or direct work session.
▪ Ensuring refuse bins are taken out on bin collection day or the previous night at the end of shift.
▪ Logging all mail that comes to the house, including any addressed to ‘The Legal Occupier’.
▪ Daily recording of fridge temperature and water temperature.
▪ Monthly testing of the fire alarm system.
▪ Daily updates to young people’s profiles on Log my Care.
▪ Daily end of shift summary and handover if necessary.
▪ Bi-monthly updates to the young person’s support plan.
▪ Any other duties as assigned.
The post-holder is required to familiarize themselves with all policies and procedures and to always comply with these. Failure to comply with any of these policies may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. These have been agreed upon with staff and are as follows:

CONFIDENTIALITY & DATA PROTECTION
The post-holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service businesses and always meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The post-holder must always comply with all company Information and Data Protection policies.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and any subsequent relevant legislation and must follow these in full at all times including ensuring that they act in line with all agreed procedures at all times in order to maintain a safe environment for young people, visitors and staff. Failure to comply with these policies may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
MANAGING STRESS
The company has an agreed policy & procedure which links with a range of services and arrangements for staff to manage stress. All staff are required to familiarize themselves with the policy and services to best manage their own and their colleagues’ stress.
HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATED INFECTIONS (HCAIs)
All staff have a responsibility to act and follow all instructions to protect young people, staff and others from HCAIs. All staff are required to follow the Hygiene Code, and all company policies and procedures related to it and the Health Act 2006. Failure to comply with any of these may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.

FLEXIBILITY
This job description is intended to provide a broad outline of the main responsibilities only. The post-holder is required to be flexible in developing their role in the agreement with their designated manager. In addition, they may be required by their manager to carry out any other duty commensurate with their banding and expertise.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar role.
