Café Supervisor – Highland Café
Location: Quex Adventure Farm Park
Contract: Annualised Hours Contract
Average Hours: 30 hours per week across the year, with hours varying seasonally
About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Café Supervisor to take a hands-on role in the day-to-day running and continued development of our Highland Café.
The Highland Café is a rustic farm café based within Quex Adventure Farm Park. Our current offering includes afternoon teas, grazing boards and seasonal food additions, with plenty of opportunity to develop the menu, service and overall café experience as the business grows.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being involved, wants to make their mark and is excited by the chance to be part of the journey rather than simply step into an established operation.
The successful candidate will need previous catering experience and must be confident working across both front of house and back of house, including preparing and cooking food when required.
A strong working knowledge of food safety compliance, Environmental Health requirements and day-to-day catering documentation is essential.
Key Responsibilities
· Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Highland Café.
· Deliver excellent customer service and ensure customers receive a warm, friendly and professional experience.
· Supervise and support café team members during service.
· Work hands-on alongside the team across both front and back of house.
· Prepare, cook and present food to a consistently high standard.
· Coordinate afternoon teas, grazing boards and seasonal food offerings.
· Help develop new ideas, menu additions and seasonal opportunities.
· Maintain high standards of presentation throughout the café.
· Manage stock levels, ordering, rotation and wastage.
· Ensure stock is stored correctly and efficiently.
· Monitor availability and plan ahead for busy periods, events and seasonal demand.
· Maintain full compliance with food hygiene, food safety and allergen requirements.
· Maintain appropriate HACCP-based procedures and ensure controls are followed in practice.
· Identify and rectify any food safety or compliance concerns promptly.
· Help train, develop and motivate café team members.
· Maintain attention to detail across food presentation, customer areas and overall café standards.
· Work closely with the wider management and operations team.
· Support events, seasonal activities and busier periods across the Farm Park where required.
· Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, customer experience and profitability within the café.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
· Has previous catering, café, restaurant or hospitality experience.
· Has experience supervising or taking responsibility for a hospitality operation or shift.
· Is confident preparing and cooking food.
· Is equally comfortable working front of house and back of house.
· Has a strong understanding of food safety legislation and Environmental Health requirements.
· Understands HACCP principles and practical food safety controls.
· Has strong customer service skills.
· Has good stock management and organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
· Takes pride in food presentation and the overall customer experience.
· Is organised and able to remain calm during busy periods.
· Is proactive and happy to spot what needs doing rather than waiting to be asked.
· Is comfortable taking ownership while still being very hands-on.
· Enjoys working as part of a wider team.
· Is excited about helping develop a growing café and bringing new ideas to the role.
A recognised Level 2 Food Safety qualification is essential, with Level 3 Food Safety in Catering or equivalent supervisory food safety training highly desirable.
Working Pattern
This position will be offered on an annualised hours contract, averaging approximately 30 hours per week across the year.
As a seasonal visitor attraction, working hours will vary depending on the time of year and business requirements. More hours will generally be worked during our busiest periods, with reduced hours during quieter periods.
The role will include weekend, school holiday and seasonal working, and flexibility will be an important part of the position.
Why Join Us?
The Highland Café is still developing, which means this isn't just an opportunity to run the same service every day.
We want someone who can become an important part of its future, helping us develop the food offering, improve the customer experience and grow the café alongside the wider Quex Adventure Farm Park.
For the right person, there is genuine opportunity to develop the role, take greater ownership and grow with the business.
If you are passionate about hospitality, enjoy being hands-on and have the operational and compliance knowledge needed to run a high-standard food operation, we would love to hear from you.
