Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and committed General Builder to join our team. This role will start as a self-employed contractor, with the opportunity to transition to a permanent employed position based on performance and mutual agreement. This is a hands‑on role involving a wide variety of construction tasks. The ideal candidate will have strong technical ability, excellent craftsmanship, and experience across multiple areas of the trade. You will be expected to deliver work that meets health and safety requirements, client expectations, and industry standards.
Day rate - dependant on experience
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret technical drawings and plans
- Lay bricks, blocks, and masonry units to a high standard
- Identify potential issues and propose practical solutions
- Plan and organise work effectively
- Cut, measure, and shape materials accurately
- Mix and apply mortar and bonding agents
- Operate hand and power tools safely
- Coordinate with other trades (e.g., carpenters, electricians)
- Carry out roofing works including installation and weatherproofing (desirable)
- Undertake masonry and stonework tasks
- Assemble and fabricate structural components, including steelwork
- Conduct repairs such as re‑pointing and replacing damaged materials
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work area
- Carry out manual handling tasks as required
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in general building and construction
- Competent in using a range of power tools safely
- Knowledge of masonry, joinery, roofing, and structural assembly
- Experience in painting and finishing (interior and exterior)
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Read and interpret technical drawings and plans
- Ability to carry out manual handling tasks relevant to the role
- Experience with steelwork
Desirable Skills & Experience
Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Own vehicle
- Own relevant tools
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in building or construction
- Valid CSCS card (or willingness to obtain one)
- Right to work in the UK
