Procurement Manager
Where: Hixon, Stafford, ST18 0PF
Salary: Dependent on experience
Hours of work: Mon–Thu 08:00–17.00, Fri 08:00–15:45
Are you an experienced procurement professional who enjoys being hands-on, solving problems and improving the way things are done?
We’re looking for a Procurement Manager to join our small manufacturing business in Hixon, Stafford. This is an important role within the business, responsible for managing our purchasing activities and developing an effective, reliable and cost-effective supply chain.
You’ll manage everything from day-to-day purchasing and supplier relationships through to negotiating costs, improving processes and reducing supply-chain risk. You’ll also work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Warehousing & Inventory and Finance to ensure we have the right materials available at the right time.
What you’ll be doing
- Managing day-to-day purchasing and procurement activities
- Managing and developing supplier relationships and performance
- Negotiating pricing, contracts and commercial terms
- Sourcing and developing new and alternative suppliers
- Improving purchasing processes, controls and efficiency
- Monitoring inventory, lead times and replenishment
- Identifying cost reduction and value improvement opportunities
- Using ERP/MRP data and LEAN principles to identify and implement improvements
- Managing supply-chain risks and ensuring reliable supply
- Working closely with internal teams to resolve supply issues
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with proven procurement or purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment, who is comfortable taking ownership and making improvements rather than simply following existing processes. As a small manufacturing business, this is a genuinely hands-on role. You’ll be responsible for the strategic side of procurement and supply chain, but you’ll also be involved in the day-to-day detail – including purchase orders, administration, supplier queries and problem solving. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and getting involved at every level.
You’ll ideally have:
- An engineering or technical background
- Experience managing and negotiating with suppliers
- Experience developing purchasing processes and controls
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- CIPS Level 4 qualification, or equivalent procurement qualification, would be desirable.
- Experience using an ERP/MRP system
- Knowledge of LEAN and continuous improvement
- Experience of international supply chains
- Experience sourcing from high-quality overseas suppliers, including within cost-competitive manufacturing markets
- Excellent organisational, communication and relationship-building skills
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who is commercially minded, practical and proactive, with the confidence to challenge existing processes and find better ways of working.
