Junior Social Media & Content Creator
Part-Time | Approx. 15 Hours/Week | London
About the Role
Build Place is looking for a Junior Social Media & Content Creator to document our projects, our team and what happens behind the scenes.
We are a London construction and renovation company working on high-quality residential projects.
We're not necessarily looking for an experienced SMM professional or someone with a huge portfolio. Ideally, we're looking for a student or someone at the beginning of their career who has a good eye for content, enjoys filming and editing, and wants an opportunity to develop professionally while working with real projects.
For us, social media isn't about chasing millions of views.
It's about quality, consistency and trust.
We want someone discovering Build Place for the first time to immediately understand the quality of our work, how we operate and the people behind the company.
The Objective
Most of our customers currently discover Build Place through other channels.
Social media needs to support that journey.
When a potential client hears about Build Place and checks our social media, we want them to find a strong and consistent library of content showing:
- The quality of our projects
- How we work
- Our attention to detail
- The process behind the finished result
- Our team and the people behind Build Place
- How our sites are managed
- Our knowledge and experience
Our social media should become a living portfolio of Build Place.
Over time, we also want it to develop into an additional source of enquiries and qualified leads.
What You'll Do
The role is primarily about capturing what is already happening and presenting it beautifully.
You don't need to arrive every week with 20 new content ideas.
You need to arrive on site, understand what's happening, capture it properly and turn it into great content.
On Site
You'll regularly visit Build Place projects around London and:
- Film construction progress
- Photograph our work
- Capture important details
- Film before, during and after stages
- Film our tradespeople working
- Film the Build Place team
- Film Alex, our Project Manager, explaining projects, construction processes and interesting details
- Capture natural conversations and moments on site
- Record project walkthroughs and updates
- Create time-lapses where appropriate
- Document interesting construction processes
Sometimes we'll already know exactly what we want to film.
Other times, you'll simply need to observe what's happening and capture the best material.
Editing & Presentation
This is where we expect you to add your creativity.
You'll take raw footage from our projects and turn it into clean, professional and visually attractive content.
This includes:
- Reels
- YouTube Shorts
- Project videos
- Before & after content
- Project walkthroughs
- Stories
- Carousels
- Photography
- Longer YouTube videos when appropriate
- Subtitles
- Music
- Simple graphics and titles
You can use whatever editing tools work best for you — CapCut, Edits, Adobe Premiere Pro or other software.
We're also very interested in someone who is curious about AI and wants to use AI tools to improve editing, visuals, workflow and the way we create content.
You don't need to be an AI expert, but you should be interested in learning how to use it.
We want the final content to feel premium, natural and authentic.
Our Platforms
Our four main platforms are:
These are where we'll concentrate most of our attention.
However, content can also be repurposed and distributed across:
TikTok Threads Snapchat Reddit Pinterest X/Twitter Google Business Profile Houzz and any other relevant or emerging platforms.
You won't be expected to create completely different content for every platform.
The idea is simple:
Capture good material once → create multiple assets → distribute intelligently.
Quality Over Virality
We're not trying to become viral for the sake of becoming viral.
Build Place isn't for everyone.
We operate in a market where quality, credibility and trust are more important than having the biggest possible audience.
A beautifully produced project video watched by 2,000 relevant homeowners can be more valuable to us than a random video receiving 500,000 views.
Our priorities are:
Quality → Consistency → Credibility → Audience → Leads
Views and followers still matter, but they aren't our main definition of success.
What Success Looks Like
Initially, we'll focus heavily on:
- Consistency of posting
- Quality of filming
- Quality of editing
- Photography quality
- Amount of useful content captured from each site visit
- Brand consistency
- Coverage of our active projects
- Reliability and organisation
As our social-media presence develops, we'll increasingly measure:
- Engagement
- Profile visits
- Audience growth
- Website traffic from social media
- Enquiries
- Qualified leads
- Projects generated through social media
Initially, quality and consistency will matter considerably more than follower growth.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who:
- Has a good visual eye and notices details
- Enjoys filming, photography and editing
- Can turn ordinary construction footage into something beautiful
- Understands clean, modern and premium-looking content
- Is comfortable filming people
- Is organised and reliable
- Can work independently
- Takes pride in quality
- Wants to learn and develop professionally
- Is interested in new technology and AI tools
And there's one more thing.
We want someone who's a little bit crazy — in a good way.
You'll be working directly with Alex, our Project Manager, and different members of our construction team.
We don't want you to be afraid of us.
If the shot isn't good — tell us to do it again.
If Alex is standing in the wrong place — move him.
If you need the team to stop for two minutes to get the right shot — ask them.
And if you have an idea that sounds completely crazy but you genuinely think it could make great content — say it.
You don't need to constantly invent new concepts or chase viral videos. Most of the time, your job is simply to capture what we're already doing and make it look great.
But we want someone with enough personality, confidence and creative courage to speak up when it matters.
Equipment
Build Place can provide additional equipment including:
- Professional wireless microphones
- Drone
- Tripods/stabilisers
- Lighting where required
- Other filming accessories
For everyday filming, you'll need your own modern smartphone with an excellent camera — ideally a recent-generation iPhone.
You don't need to own expensive professional camera equipment.
Working Arrangement
Approximately 15 hours per week
The role combines:
On-site work — visiting Build Place projects around London to film and photograph content.
Remote work — editing, organising content, publishing and maintaining our social-media presence.
The schedule will need some flexibility depending on what's happening across our projects.
Compensation & Progression
Starting compensation: approximately £195–£210 per week, based on around 15 hours per week.
This isn't intended to be where your compensation stays.
We want the role to develop together with you.
We'll review performance:
Weekly — consistency, output and reliability
Monthly — content quality, project coverage and social-media performance
Quarterly — overall performance, responsibilities and compensation
As your skills, independence and contribution to Build Place improve, your compensation can grow accordingly.
Longer term, this role could develop from a junior content position into responsibility for Build Place's wider social-media, content and digital portfolio.
How to Apply
We're not particularly interested in a perfect corporate CV or years of professional experience.
Tell us briefly:
- Who you are and what you're currently doing/studying
- Why you're interested in content creation
- What apps/software you currently use for editing
- What phone you use
- Your weekly availability
- If you already have examples of your work, feel free to share them — but a portfolio is not required
Your First Creative Task
Every shortlisted candidate will have the opportunity to complete a small practical task.
We'll share with you a selection of real photos and video footage already captured on our Build Place construction sites.
There won't be a strict brief telling you exactly what to create.
We simply want you to take the material and do something with it — create a Reel, edit a short video, prepare a post, work with the photography, or present the material in whatever way you think works best.
We want to see your visual taste, editing style, attention to detail and how you work with real construction content.
After you've completed the task, Alex, our Project Manager, will personally go through the work with you. We'll discuss what you created, understand your thinking and give you feedback.
Think of it less as an exam and more as the first small project we work on together.
If we enjoy working together and like what you create, we'll move to the next stage.
No professional portfolio? No problem. Show us what you can do with ours.
Pay: £10,100.00-£26,000.00 per year
Work Location: Hybrid remote in London
