About the Role
We are looking for a Data Analyst to join our carbon and sustainability team. This role is the entry point to a structured career pathway, progressing from Data Analyst to Trainee Carbon & Sustainability Consultant and on to Carbon & Sustainability Consultant. Our consultants build carbon inventories and reduction plans for clients in line with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and ISO 14064-1.
As a Data Analyst, you will be the engine room of our inventory building process, this will involve collating incoming client data, using our in-house tools to analyse and assess data quality, liaising directly with clients to resolve data gaps or inconsistencies, and supporting our consultants as they build client carbon inventories. No prior carbon accounting experience is required as full training will be provided as you progress.
Key Responsibilities
Data collation and management
● Collate incoming client data from a range of sources and formats (utility bills, activity data, supplier returns, etc.)
● Organise and structure data ready for analysis, maintaining a clear audit trail of sources and assumptions
Analysis and quality assessment
● Use our in-house tools to analyse and assess incoming data for completeness, accuracy and consistency
● Identify data gaps, anomalies or quality issues and flag these to the relevant consultant
● Apply emission factors and calculation methodologies under guidance from the consulting team
Client communication
● Communicate with clients to request missing data or clarify queries about data quality
● Build clear, professional written and verbal communication with client contacts on data matters
Supporting inventory delivery
● Support the Carbon & Sustainability Consultant team in building client GHG inventories and reduction plans
● Assist in ensuring inventories are built in line with the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-1 requirements
● Contribute to internal quality checks and documentation ahead of client delivery
Career Progression
This role is designed as the first step on a defined pathway. Progression is based on demonstrated competency and readiness rather than a fixed timeline and is supported by structured training and mentoring from our Principal and Lead consultants.
Stage 1 — Data Analyst (this role)
● Focus on data collation, quality assessment and client data queries, as above
Stage 2 — Trainee Carbon & Sustainability Consultant
● Begin building Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions calculations under supervision
● Take a more active role in client calls and meetings
● Contribute to drafting reduction plans and recommendations
● Deepen technical knowledge of the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-1, working toward relevant professional development/qualifications
Stage 3 — Carbon & Sustainability Consultant
● Own client carbon inventories end-to-end
● Lead client relationships and advisory conversations
● Design and present carbon reduction strategies and pathways
● Ensure full compliance with the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-1 across client work
About You
Essential
● Strong Excel and general data-handling skills
● A methodical, analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail
● Confident, professional communication skills, comfortable raising data queries with clients
● Well organised, able to manage multiple data sets and client requests at once
● A genuine interest in sustainability, climate or carbon accounting
Desirable
● A degree in a relevant field (e.g. environmental science, sustainability, data/analytics, business or another STEM subject) — not essential
● Familiarity with the GHG Protocol or ISO 14064-1 (full training provided if not)
● Experience with additional data tools such as AI, SQL or Python
● Experience in a customer or client-facing role, demonstrating excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders
What We Offer

● Training and support toward professional development in carbon accounting and sustainability consulting
● A 4.5-day working week, finishing at 1pm on Fridays
● Full pay for 35 hours while working 31 hours per week
● Hybrid working, office-based Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; home-based Wednesday and Friday
● 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, we also close for the Christmas break, and this is not deducted from annual leave allowance.
● Pension Scheme available with contributions from the company to top up personal contributions.
