Finance Manager – Engineering Project Accounting
Location: Banbury
Salary: Circa £60,000
Reporting to: General Manager
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
We are looking for an experienced Finance Manager to join our team and take full ownership of the financial function within a growing engineering and project-based business.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this is a broad and hands-on role covering management accounts, project accounting, cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, statutory reporting and day-to-day financial control.
We are looking for someone who can manage the financial detail while also providing clear commercial insight, forward planning and financial support to the General Manager and wider Management Team.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, Balance Sheet and commentary.

Produce weekly cash flow reporting, annual budgets and ongoing forecasts.

Manage project and contract accounting, including invoicing, applications for payment, retentions, WIP, deferred/accrued income and project cost monitoring.

Monitor actual project performance against budgets and expected margins.

Oversee sales ledger, purchase ledger, credit control and supplier payment runs.

Complete bank, credit card and Balance Sheet reconciliations.

Monitor stock records and stock valuation.

Collate payroll information and oversee timesheets, expenses and labour allocation to projects.

Prepare and submit VAT and monthly CIS returns.

Manage intercompany transactions and Group financial reporting.

Support year-end audit requirements and liaise with auditors, banks, insurers and other external advisers.

Maintain and improve financial controls, processes and management reporting.

Support strategic planning, budgeting and commercial decision-making.

Take an active role in the continued development and use of Sage X3.
About You
We are looking for someone with:

Previous experience as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller, Management Accountant or similar.

Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow experience.

Experience within project or contract accounting, particularly WIP, accrued/deferred income and project cost control.

A good understanding of VAT, CIS, payroll and Balance Sheet accounting.

Can clearly explain financial terms to non-financial people

Strong Excel skills.

Experience using Sage X3 would be highly advantageous.

Experience within engineering, manufacturing, construction, utilities or another project-based environment would be beneficial.

ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent qualification would be advantageous, although strong relevant experience will also be considered.
