Job Purpose:
Supporting the implementation of a digital and automation strategy within Operations by developing a product configurator and AI-assisted tools. The role will convert Bill of Manufacture (BOM) data into structured, scalable systems to support engineering planning and costing teams. The position will improve data flow, reduce manual intervention enhance accuracy across order processing and production preparation as well improve overall efficiency and productivity in key bottleneck processes.
Main Responsibilities:
Key Activities/Elements Total: 100%
Develop and implement a product configurator translating BOM and product rules into structured digital outputs. 35%
Automate generation of Bills of Manufacture, routing, and associated manufacturing data for planning teams. 20%
Develop costing logic linking materials, labour, and machine time to support estimating and commercial functions. 15%
Collaborate with third-party AI developers to define, develop, and implement AI-assisted tools for BOM and costing generation. 30%
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education level and/or relevant experience(s)
Significant and relevant experience in AI based solutions within engineering, or manufacturing systems role.
Desirable – Degree in Engineering, Computer Science (AI biased), or related STEM field.
Knowledge and skills
· Technical proficiency in AI tools within a manufacturing and engineering ecosystem
· Experience in software development (Python, C#, or similar).
· Experience with databases (SQL or equivalent) and strong data analytics
· Application of machine learning solutions for manufacturing and engineering business requirements
· Understanding of manufacturing processes and BOM structures.
· Experience with configurators or rule-based systems (desirable).
· Experience of system integration to bring an AI solution to the problem statement
· Ability to measure the output of an AI solution to the problem statement
· Exposure to AI tools or working with AI vendors (desirable).
· Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
· A team player with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, production, and commercial teams.
