Job Overview
The Healthcare Assistant will work under the supervision of our General Practitioners to provide high-quality clinical and administrative support. The successful candidate will assist with patient assessments, undertake a variety of clinical procedures, support health promotion and screening programmes, and contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the clinic.
This role offers the opportunity to develop additional skills within private primary care and work closely with experienced clinicians in delivering outstanding patient-centred care.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be expected to undertake duties including, but not limited to:
Clinical Duties
- Venepuncture (blood sampling)
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Height, weight and BMI measurements
- ECG recording
- Urinalysis
- Capillary blood glucose testing
- NHS and private health screening
- Lifestyle assessments
- Chaperoning during examinations and procedures
- Assisting GPs during minor surgery and joint injections
- Wound care and dressing changes
- Removal of sutures and clips
- Ear irrigation/microsuction (desirable)
- Stocking and preparing consulting rooms
- Infection prevention and control procedures
- Vaccine preparation and administration (where appropriately trained)
- Monitoring and recording observations
Health Promotion
Support patients with:
- Healthy lifestyle advice
- Smoking cessation
- Weight management
- Cardiovascular risk reduction
- Diabetes prevention
- Health screening programmes
Administrative Duties
- Preparing patients for consultations
- Maintaining accurate electronic patient records
- Processing pathology samples
- Completing clinical documentation
- Managing clinical stock and ordering supplies
- Equipment checks and maintenance
- Supporting CQC compliance
- Assisting with audit work
- Ensuring consulting rooms remain fully equipped
Person SpecificationEssential Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent)
- Care Certificate (desirable)
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Essential Experience
- Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within a GP Practice, Primary Care, Community or Hospital setting
- Experience of venepuncture
- Experience of ECG recording
- Experience of taking clinical observations
- Experience using electronic clinical record systems
- Excellent communication skills
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection

Training can be provided for suitable candidates.
Pay: £27,510.91-£34,877.90 per year
