Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Independent Prescriber to join a fast-paced private ADHD service. This role involves independent assessment, prescribing, and ongoing management of ADHD in adults and children.
You will work with a high degree of clinical autonomy, delivering timely, patient-focused, and evidence-based care, supporting patients through diagnosis, medication titration, and long-term management.
Key Responsibilities
Independent Prescribing & Titration
- Prescribe ADHD medications (e.g., methylphenidate, lisdexamfetamine, atomoxetine)
- Lead medication titration programmes, ensuring efficiency and safety
- Monitor response, side effects, and adherence
- Manage controlled drugs within legal and governance frameworks
- Optimise treatment plans to achieve stable dosing in a timely manner
Patient Journey & Experience
- Deliver a high-quality, patient-centred experience in line with private healthcare expectations
- Provide clear, accessible psychoeducation and treatment guidance
- Maintain responsive communication (email, portal, virtual follow-ups)
- Support patients in understanding treatment options and making informed decisions
Follow-Up & Ongoing Care
- Conduct regular review appointments (virtual and/or face-to-face)
- Adjust medication and care plans based on outcomes
- Prepare patients for discharge to GP/shared care where appropriate
- Provide relapse prevention and long-term management advice
Physical Health Monitoring
- Review baseline physical health data (BP, pulse, BMI, ECG where required)
- Ensure ongoing monitoring meets clinical and medico-legal standards
- Liaise with GPs or external providers for required investigations
Risk & Safeguarding
- Assess risk (e.g., mental health deterioration, substance misuse)
- Act within safeguarding frameworks and escalate concerns appropriately
- Maintain clear and defensible clinical records
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Work alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, and administrative teams
- Escalate complex cases or diagnostic uncertainty appropriately
- Contribute to case discussions and service development
Clinical Governance & Quality
- Adhere to NMC standards, CQC requirements, and internal protocols
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation suitable for private practice
- Participate in audit, supervision, and continuous improvement
- Ensure medico-legal compliance in all prescribing decisions
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Independent Prescriber Qualification (V300)
- Experience in ADHD or neurodevelopmental services
- Strong understanding of ADHD pharmacological management
- Ability to work independently and manage caseload efficiently
Desirable
- Experience in private healthcare settings
- Experience with adult and child ADHD services
- Familiarity with remote/telehealth platforms
- Experience preparing reports for GPs/shared care agreements
