London 9 Months FTC - maternity cover October start
Does this sound like you?
You're a commercially minded, qualified solicitor who knows how to get things done without making people feel like they've been through a legal wringer. You're equally comfortable negotiating a SaaS MSA as you are explaining GDPR obligations to a non-lawyer colleague in plain English. You thrive working independently, you don't need a lot of hand-holding, and you bring a low-ego, trusted-partner energy to every team you work with.
What you’ll be doing (in a nutshell):
This is a nine-month maternity cover role sitting within our Governance, Risk and Compliance team, reporting to our GRC Director. You'll be the go-to for commercial legal support across the business, covering everything from contract negotiation to data privacy to regulatory compliance, working closely with colleagues across Product, Sales, Customer Success, Finance and People, as well as external counsel.
Day-to-day you can expect to:
Commercial Contracts
Draft, review and negotiate a high volume of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, customer MSAs, Call-Off agreements, SaaS agreements, partnership deals and NDAs
Manage the contract lifecycle from initial request through to execution, keeping our contract register accurate and up to date in our CRM
Provide clear, actionable advice to business teams on contractual risk, liability and key obligations
Triage and respond to inbound legal requests from Sales, Customer Success and Procurement in a timely manner
Escalate commercial and legal risks to relevant executive stakeholders in line with our Rules of Engagement
Data and Privacy
Work alongside our DPO and Information Governance team on data protection matters
Review and negotiate Data Processing Agreements (DPAs)
Support the business on GDPR compliance and advise on data sharing arrangements
Regulatory and Compliance
Support compliance initiatives across multiple jurisdictions, including UK, EU and relevant international markets
Monitor regulatory developments and flag implications for the business in plain language
Maintain and update internal legal policies, templates and playbooks
Assist with corporate governance tasks as required
To be successful, you'll have:
A qualified solicitor status (or equivalent) with at least four years' post-qualification experience, ideally including in-house experience in a technology or SaaS business
Solid experience in commercial contracts, with a strong understanding of SaaS and B2B agreement structures
Experience working with NHS, local councils and government clients on Framework and Call-Off agreements (for example, CCS, ESPO and NOE frameworks)
Working knowledge of UK GDPR and data protection law, with hands-on experience negotiating DPAs
Confidence navigating regulatory compliance in a multi-jurisdictional environment
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload independently
The ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-lawyers
Bonus points if you bring:
Experience in employee benefits, HR tech or a similar platform business
Familiarity with contract management tools and legal workflow software
Exposure to IP matters
