We’re currently on the lookout for a PUWER Engineer to join our team who will be responsible for carrying out inspections, assessments, and compliance activities in accordance with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). The role ensures that machinery and work equipment are safe, legally compliant, and fit for purpose, helping clients maintain safe working environments and meet statutory obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out PUWER inspections on a wide range of industrial machinery and work equipment.
- Assess machinery against the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 and associated standards.
- Identify hazards, non-conformities, and areas requiring corrective action.
- Produce detailed inspection reports with clear recommendations and risk-based findings.
- Provide practical advice to clients on achieving PUWER compliance.
- Assess machinery guarding, safety devices, emergency stops, control systems, electrical safety, and operator protection measures.
- Liaise professionally with customers, explaining inspection findings and recommending suitable improvements.
- Work with internal engineering teams to support machinery modifications and compliance projects where required.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, reports, photographs, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, quality standards, and relevant legislation.
- Keep up to date with changes in legislation, British Standards, and industry best practice.
- Travel to customer sites throughout the UK as required.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture at all times.
Person Specification
Essential
- Engineering qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related discipline).
- Good working knowledge of PUWER 1998 and machinery safety principles.
- Experience inspecting industrial machinery or manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to accommodate overtime and travel to client sites where necessary.
Desirable
- Experience with CE/UKCA Machinery compliance.
- Functional Safety or Machinery Safety qualifications.
- IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety qualification.
- Experience with risk assessments and machinery modifications.
- Experience within process industries such as food and beverage manufacturing.
Working Hours
- Full-time: 37.5 hours per week
- Overtime available at enhanced rates
