Main Purpose of the Post
To support the Kitchen Manager in the efficient day-to-day running of the kitchen, assisting in the preparation and presentation of high-quality meals, catering services, and baked goods (including cakes). The post holder will ensure full compliance with food safety and health & safety standards, contribute to menu development, and support volunteers within the department.
The Kitchen Manager will provide guidance and support to ensure the post holder is confident in all procedures and responsibilities. The role also includes taking responsibility for the kitchen in the absence of the Kitchen Manager, ensuring operations continue smoothly while following all established procedures, standards, and guidelines already set.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist in the preparation, production and presentation of all food orders to a high standard.
2. Ensure all food safety regulations and hygiene standards are consistently met and maintained.
3. Keep all required training up to date, including food safety certifications.
4. Work collaboratively with the team to develop new catering ideas and menus for both the Centre and external events.
5. Support the training and supervision of volunteers ensuring correct procedures are always followed.
6. Assist the Kitchen Manager with stock/portion control, complying with all issued guidelines.
7. Maintain Health and Safety standards across the department, ensuring legal requirements and good working practise are met.
8. Accurately record and monitor temperatures and all required food safety checks.
9. Work under the direction of the Kitchen Manager and follow operational guidelines.
10. Take responsibility for the day-to day running of the kitchen in the absence of the Kitchen Manager, ensuring continuity of service and standards.
Main Duties
- Ensure all meals, snacks, and refreshments are produced to the highest quality and presentation standards, including contributing to promotional activity where required.
- To Support the smooth delivery of the “Hotplates” meal service.
- Maintain consistent quality standards in all food produced
- Work within budgets set by the Kitchen Manager without compromising food quality.
- To assist in maintaining a high level of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and serving areas at all times.
- To follow current Environmental Health Guidelines regarding food preparation, storage & Hygiene.
- Attend all staff meetings as required
- Participate in organisational fundraising events – where required, these may be outside of normal operational hours.
- To attend relevant training courses when required.

Pay: From £24,784.50 per year
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Newmarket CB8 8NT: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
- Catering management: 1 year (preferred)
- Chefs: 1 year (preferred)
