Job Title: Building Contractor Controller
Location: On-Site, Rittal- CSM Ltd, Plymouth.
Salary: £32,000 - £35,000 dependant on qualifications and experience
Contract Type: 12-months fixed-term
Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday
Hours: 39 hours per week

The Opportunity
Rittal-CSM is seeking a highly organised and proactive Building Contractor Controller to support our exciting factory extension project and wider site operations.
Acting as the primary point of contact for all contractor-related activities across the site, you will play a crucial role in ensuring contractors operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company standards and legal requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with contractor management, facilities, maintenance, or compliance experience to make a significant impact within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Contractor Management & Compliance
- Coordinate contractor activities across the site, ensuring work is planned and completed safely with minimal disruption to operations.
- Support contractor onboarding and prequalification processes, including review of competencies, certifications, insurance documentation, and health and safety records.
- Ensure all contractors complete required site inductions before commencing work.
- Review and verify contractor documentation, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), permits to work, and training records.
- Manage contractor access arrangements and maintain effective control of contractor movements across the site.
- Conduct contractor audits and compliance inspections, escalating any concerns as appropriate.
- Monitor contractor performance and support corrective actions where required.
- Maintain contractor databases, compliance records, and performance information.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Support compliance with company health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Coordinate permit-to-work processes and maintain associated records.
- Assist with site inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Support investigations into contractor-related incidents, near misses, and non-conformances.
- Challenge unsafe behaviours and ensure contractor activities comply with all statutory and company requirements.
Qualifications & Experience

Essential
- Experience coordinating contractors, facilities services, or maintenance activities.
- Strong understanding of contractor control processes, including RAMS, permits to work, and contractor inductions.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
- Experience maintaining compliance records, documentation, and contractor databases.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to challenge non-compliance where necessary.
Desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent qualification.
- NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environment.
- Experience using contractor management or facilities management systems.
- Knowledge of procurement and contractor performance monitoring processes.
