Workshop Supervisor
Worsley Plant Ltd is a nationwide supplier of excavator attachments, specialising in their supply, installation and maintenance. Due to continued growth and increased demand, we are looking for an experienced Workshop Supervisor to join our busy engineering workshop.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Welder/Fabricator, Fitter, Workshop Engineer or Supervisor looking to take the next step in their career and lead a skilled workshop team.
The Role
As Workshop Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the workshop and the supervision of approximately 10 workshop employees.
You will ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, to a high standard and within agreed timescales, while maintaining good communication between the workshop and office.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the workshop team.
- Allocate jobs and manage workloads to maximise productivity.
- Monitor job progress and ensure deadlines are achieved.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance and support to workshop employees.
- Manage holidays, sickness, attendance and timekeeping.
- Identify training and development requirements.
- Act as the main point of contact between the workshop and office.
- Communicate job priorities, customer requirements and delivery schedules.
- Provide management with regular updates on workshop performance.
- Carry out quality checks and ensure completed work meets company standards.
- Investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Promote continuous improvement in workshop processes and workmanship.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organised workshop environment.
- Oversee maintenance and servicing of workshop machinery, tools and lifting equipment.
- Report equipment faults and arrange repairs where required.
- Monitor tools, equipment, materials and consumable stock levels.
- Promote excellent housekeeping and minimise waste.
- Ensure compliance with company health and safety procedures.
- Ensure employees use appropriate PPE and safe working practices.
- Report and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses.
About You
We are looking for someone with a strong engineering/workshop background who is confident supervising people and managing a busy workload.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a workshop, engineering or fabrication environment.
- Experience supervising or leading a team.
- Good knowledge of workshop practices, tools and equipment.
- A strong understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- A high standard of workmanship and attention to detail.
- A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure.
- A positive attitude towards teamwork and continuous improvement.
Experience in welding, fabrication, mechanical fitting, plant machinery or excavator attachments would be highly advantageous.
