Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Workshop Assistant to support our Mechanic in the day-to-day running of a busy workshop. This role involves assisting the mechanic with vehicle maintenance and repairs, maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment, and driving vehicles as required. A valid car driving licence is essential for this position as a minimum. the hours are Monday - Friday, 7am - 4pm.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist mechanics with HGV vehicle servicing, maintenance, and repairs
- Prepare tools, equipment, and parts for scheduled jobs
- Clean and maintain workshop areas to ensure a safe working environment
- Carry out basic vehicle checks and minor tasks under supervision
- Collect and deliver vehicles, parts, and materials as required
- Assist with deliveries
- Operate a fork lift where required (Training will be provided)
- Dispose of waste materials in line with health and safety guidelines
- Ensure tools and equipment are stored correctly and maintained
- Support stock control and inventory management
- Follow all company health and safety procedures
- Assist with administration tasks
Essential Requirements
- Full, valid driving licence
- Good practical skills and willingness to learn
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Strong work ethic and reliable timekeeping
- Basic understanding of vehicle mechanics (preferred but not essential)
- Physically fit and able to perform manual handling tasks
- Basic computer skills
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a mechanical workshop or similar environment
- Basic knowledge of vehicle servicing and repairs
- Forklift licence (if applicable)
