Job Summary
An opportunity has arisen for an additional carer to join a rota with our main carer for one week per month (5 days plus weekend). The carer will look after an 88 year old gentleman who has a mild cognitive impairment and mobility limitations following a stroke two years ago. In addition to the one week per month, more work may be available to cover holidays etc. This would be arranged subject to the carer’s availability.
The job is located in a large house in a picturesque village in North Yorkshire where the client lives with his wife, who is 82. They have a well-behaved, friendly spaniel.
The carer has their own bedroom with bathroom and access to a separate fridge and area for food storage. It is possible to park at the house.
The carer assists with daily life – washing, dressing, and helping to promote as much independence as possible.
Description of duties
- Support client with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility assistance
- Assist with medication management according to care plans and ensure adherence to prescribed routines.
- Maintain detailed records of care provided, updates on client well-being, and any changes in condition.
- Communicate effectively with the clients, extended family, healthcare professionals and the main carer to ensure coordinated care
- Work closely with the main carer and follow established care plans to deliver consistent support that meets individual needs
- Occasionally preparing a light meal for the client. The couple like to cook at home and eat together in the evening, at these times the carer is free to relax in their room.
· Assisting client to get to the toilet during the night if required. This does not happen every night.
We would welcome applications from carers with:
· 6 months experience in care work.
· Certificates in basic caring skills.
· The ability to understand care plans and work flexibly and co-operatively with the main carer.
· A flexible approach to work and breaks.
· Good communication skills often using text messages.
· The right to live and work in the UK.
· Enhanced DBS.
· Good references
· Valid driving license and own car. (It is a 20 minute walk to the nearest bus stop.)
Pay and conditions
· The carer must be self-employed and have own insurance.
· Payment is by bank transfer on request.
· The starting rate per day is £150 for weekdays, £160 for weekends and £170 for bank holidays. This works out as £770 per week. There is a £50 per week food allowance and a petrol allowance per mile, while staying at the property. The pay rate increases each year in April.
· The carer has the right to a two hour break each day when they can leave the house. The timing of this is determined on a day-to-day basis according to need. There are often periods of time in the day where the carer has no duties.
· If the carer has been called on multiple times, or for longer periods, during the night, adequate rest time will be given the next day. Waking nights are not the norm but could occur in the event of illness.
· The rota will be planned three months in advance.
· If the carer or the client wish to discontinue the arrangement, as much notice as possible will be given, a minimum of two weeks.
