Health & Social Care Tutor
Location: Basildon (Southgate)
Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
The Role
We are looking for an inspiring Health & Social Care Tutor to join our GAPS Centre in Basildon (Southgate), supporting learners aged 16–18 and 19–24 with EHCPs.
You will deliver engaging Health & Social Care lessons at Entry Level 3 and Level 1, adapting your teaching to meet individual needs. You will support learners to develop their skills, build confidence and prepare for further education, employment and adulthood.
This role would suit an enthusiastic, resilient and motivated educator who can build positive relationships with young people, including those with complex learning needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Health & Social Care lessons at Entry Level 3 and Level 1.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and resources appropriate to learner needs.
- Differentiate teaching in line with EHCPs and individual learning requirements.
- Assess learner work, maintain portfolios and track progress against qualification requirements.
- Set and review SMART targets and conduct regular learner progress reviews.
- Provide guidance, encouragement and additional support where required.
- Work effectively with Learning Support Assistants to ensure learners are appropriately supported.
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with organisational policies.
- Provide enrichment opportunities and use technology to enhance learning.
- Maintain accurate assessment, progress and learner records.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, external agencies and the Quality Assurance Team.
- Attend standardisation meetings and maintain relevant CPD.
- Follow safeguarding, Prevent, health and safety and other organisational procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and participate in inspections and relevant events.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to travel to other locations when required.
Skills and Experience
- Health & Social Care qualification at Level 3 or above.
- Recognised teaching qualification such as PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent.
- Appropriate Assessor qualification and experience.
- GCSE English and Maths Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills.
- Experience teaching Health & Social Care and/or working with young people aged 16–24.
- Experience supporting learners with SEND, complex needs and/or EHCPs.
- Strong understanding of differentiation and learner-centred teaching.
- Excellent communication, organisation and classroom management skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young people and respond confidently to challenging situations.
- Experience assessing learner work and monitoring progress.
- Patient, enthusiastic, resilient and adaptable approach.
