Contract: Bank / Flexible Hours, with opportunity to progress to a permanent role
Hours: Flexible – Monday to Friday
Reports to: Nursery Manager, Deputy Manager and Room Leaders
Pay: £12.98 per hour – Level 3 Qualified

Job Summary
We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and reliable Level 3 Qualified Bank Nursery Practitioner to join the Bookworms team.
The role will initially be offered on a Bank basis, providing flexible support during staff absence, holidays, training and periods of increased demand.
For the right person, we expect this role to develop into a permanent position. This is a great opportunity to get to know Bookworms, our children and our team while demonstrating what you can bring to the nursery.
You will work across different rooms and age groups depending on the needs of the nursery, helping us maintain high standards of care, education and safeguarding at all times.
Key Responsibilities
As a Bank Nursery Practitioner, you will:
- Provide high-quality care and supervision for children throughout the nursery day
- Work flexibly across different rooms and age groups, from babies through to preschool
- Support the nursery in maintaining appropriate staff-to-child ratios
- Support the delivery of engaging and age-appropriate activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
- Encourage children's confidence, independence, communication and development through play
- Support children's daily routines including meals, nappy changing, toileting, sleep and outdoor play
- Build warm, positive and professional relationships with children
- Support permanent practitioners and Room Leaders with children's learning and development
- Observe children and communicate relevant information to permanent practitioners and Room Leaders
- Maintain a safe, clean, stimulating and welcoming nursery environment
- Follow all Bookworms policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health & safety and hygiene requirements
- Communicate professionally and positively with parents, carers and colleagues
- Be punctual, dependable and professional when accepting Bank shifts
- Attend relevant training and team meetings where required
- Carry out other reasonable duties appropriate to the role and needs of the nursery
Safeguarding
Safeguarding children is at the heart of everything we do at Bookworms.
You will be expected to:
- Understand and follow Bookworms' safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Remain vigilant to signs that may indicate a safeguarding concern
- Report concerns immediately to the nursery's Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Promote children's welfare, safety and wellbeing at all times
Appointment will be subject to appropriate safer recruitment checks, references and an enhanced DBS check.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Early Years qualification
- Previous experience working with children within a nursery, preschool or Early Years environment
- A genuine passion for working with young children
- Good understanding of safeguarding and children's welfare
- Caring, patient and approachable manner
- Reliable, punctual and professional
- Ability to adapt quickly to different rooms, age groups and routines
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and develop professionally
Desirable
- Paediatric First Aid qualification
- Experience working with babies and children under 2
- Strong knowledge of the EYFS
- Experience working across different Early Years age groups
