Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Out-of-Hours (OOHs) Veterinary Care Assistant to join our team within Nightingale Emergency Vets. This role involves providing essential support during out-of-hours periods, ensuring the highest standard of care for our animal patients and their owners. The successful candidate will work closely with veterinary professionals to deliver compassionate, efficient, and professional assistance in a fast-paced environment. Prior veterinary experience is highly desirable, and the role offers valuable opportunities for professional development within the veterinary field.
Hours
Every other Sunday 8am to 6pm. A proportion of Bank Holidays 8am to 6pm will also be required.
Duties
- Assist the veterinary surgeon and veterinary nurse with patient care.
- Prepare and sterilise surgical instruments and equipment for emergency procedures
- Support laboratory tasks such as sample collection, processing, and analysis to aid diagnosis
- Maintain accurate records of patient information, treatments, and procedures in accordance with clinic protocols
- Ensure the cleanliness and organisation of the practice to uphold hygiene standards
- Provide compassionate support to pet owners, including phone answering, booking of appointments, welcoming clients and their pets to the practice and taking payments
- Assist in emergency situations by preparing animals for surgery or treatment as directed by veterinary staff
Skills
- Previous veterinary experience is highly advantageous, demonstrating familiarity with clinical procedures and animal handling
- Excellent organisational skills with an ability to multiple task and prioritise
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with veterinary team members and pet owners
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure during out-of-hours shifts while maintaining a compassionate approach towards animals and clients
- Flexibility to adapt to varying duties within a dynamic clinical environmen
