J R Harding & Sons are seeking an experienced HGV Technician / Commercial Vehicle Mechanic to join our busy Iveco Approved Workshop in Frome.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a long-established business with a strong reputation in the transport, haulage and cold storage sectors. Working within our modern workshop, you will maintain and repair a varied fleet of HGVs, trailers and commercial vehicles, while supporting workshop services provided to external customers.

The Role
As an HGV Technician, you will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of a range of commercial vehicles and trailers. You will work closely with the Workshop Manager and wider team to minimise vehicle downtime and ensure all work is completed to manufacturer and DVSA standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs, trailers and light commercial vehicles.
- Complete scheduled preventative maintenance inspections.
- Undertake MOT preparation work and ensure vehicles meet roadworthiness standards.
- Carry out diagnostics using manufacturer-approved systems and diagnostic equipment.
- Complete warranty, recall and service work in accordance with Iveco manufacturer requirements.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and defect reporting.
- Maintain accurate service records and workshop documentation.
- Support roadside breakdown recovery and urgent repairs where required.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures and Health & Safety legislation.
- Maintain excellent workshop housekeeping standards.
- Contribute to delivering an exceptional service experience for both internal fleet and external workshop customers.
What We’re Looking ForEssential
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
- Previous experience working on HGVs, trailers or commercial vehicles.
- Diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Good understanding of vehicle electrical systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good communication and record-keeping skills.
Desirable
- Previous experience within an Iveco dealership or manufacturer-approved workshop.
- HGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence.
- IRTEC accreditation.
- Experience using electronic vehicle diagnostics.
- Forklift licence.
- Experience supervising apprentices or trainee technicians.
